Industrial Shredders are high powered machines used to crush materials in advance of disposal, recycling or
manufacturing. An industrial shredder is any shredder that can be used in an industrial application (rather than a consumer application). They can be equipped with different types of cutting systems: horizontal shaft design, vertical shaft design, single-shaft, two-shaft, three-shaft and four-shaft cutting systems. These shredders are slow speed or high speed, and are not restricted in being classified as an industrial shredder by their speed or horsepower. Well, at present, portable shredders have been developed, which are small in sizes and low in prices. It is more suitable for personal use as well as for small scale industries.

Project Objectives

1.Familiarization with design/analysis/manufacturing/assembling/testing of a model of the industrial shredder.
2. Understanding the building blocks of industrial shredder model and their operating principles.
3. Grasp the characteristics of machine parts and their practical limitations.
4. Study the relation between crushing material size and motor torque on blades shafts of shredder.
5. Understanding the electrical safety of the electric power motor and operation/control of the machine.

Benefits of the Project

1. Processing material for production (breaking bigger into smaller pieces for greater efficiency.
2. Reducing volumes saving transportation and storage costs (p roper waste management).
3. Destroying and protecting waste materials from misuse such as municipal solid waste or nuclear waste,
4. medical waste, hazardous waste including common garbage. (safe to dispose as per Safeguards the privacy of the company as well as individual information by destroying documents),

5. X Rays reports and media like hard drives and other electronic related items.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

1 Hopper size is 530 mm x 350 mm
2 Crushing blades diameter is 150 mm and its thickness is 14 mm.
3 Cyclodrive electric power motor (make/model: Sumitomo 6000 series) 1 hp / 0.746 kw.
4 Rotor shaft rpm is 20 and torque upto 450 Nm.
5 Electrical safety for motor through Schneider EOCR (Electronic Over Current Relay)
