The smart Greenhouse
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryGreenhouse, an urban farming approach, provides farmers with an option to provide optimum cultivation condition by offering a controlled environment according to the crop’s requirements. However, many farmers fail to get good profits and desired yield from greenhouse crops because they cannot efficiently monitor and control important factors like light, air, temperature etc., that determine plant growth and productivity.
To overcome such challenges, automated greenhouse monitoring and control system comes to the rescue. The rising ubiquity of technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is a key factor in the development of a connected greenhouse in the coming years.
Our Smart Smart Greenhouse Automation system will enable growers to monitor their parameters that are crucial for healthy growth of the crop, send alerts when there’s a problem and allow them to manage everything remotely on any device.
Project ObjectivesOur Smart Smart Greenhouse Automation system will help the growers with the following strategic benefits enhancing their horticultural practices:
- Monitor parameters for anomaly.
- Control environment for better yield.
- Save power, electricity and water consumption.
This in turn will address challenges faced globally such as water crisis, nutrition deficiency, climate change, and more.
Project Implementation MethodWith traditional greenhouses, growers can control the environmental parameters through a proportional control mechanism which involves manual intervention, often resulting in production loss, energy loss and increased labor cost.
The proposed system is implemented using six sensors which are light, temperature, Co2, Moisture, humidity, and pH sensor. Coordinating components are Arduino microcontroller which play a role of the heart of the proposed system which is coordinated by other components for the proper communication between monitoring and controlling system. The controlling system is equipped with Fan, Dc motor, Servo motors, heater and shower. The other components are LCD, wires and relays.

The proposed solution of our Smart Greenhouse Automation system includes alot of benefits, e-g;
- Monitor, control, automate and detect plant growth.
- Save power, electricity and water consumption.
- Control environment for better yield.
- Will use the water correctly.
- Monitor consumption of resources.
- Promote healthier crops.
- Reduce manual labor and minimize heavy lifting, and
- Keep energy costs low
The final deliverables of proposed system have hardware which will consists of sensors which are light, temperature, Co2,Moisture, humidity, and PH sensor and will coordinate with Arduino microcontroller. The controlling system will be equipped with Fan, Dc motor, Servo motors, heater and shower. The other components will be LCD, wires and relays.
The sensors will monitor the data which will be transfer through internet to the IoT application and the user will set once the range of different parameters for the greenhouse for some specific time and then the control system will be responsible for controlling the parameters of the Greenhouse for the specified time
