The smart cart(an enhanced shopping experience)

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

We proposed an intelligent cart which senses the product which is purchased by the customer and then bills it accordingly. To do so we have RFID tags attached to the product and there is a Raspberry Pi which scans the RFID tag and generates the bill in real time accordingly. The current bill amount can be seen on an LCD screen also the payment method that is from easy paisa .LCD will display three options on screen that is whether the customer wants to continue shopping, want to remove any item, and the pay option. We are also able to check the contents of the shopping list by logging on to the Shopping Malls website and then pay the bill accordingly. The web server is responsible for receiving and sending data. It sends data to the customers cellphone that is in the form of receipt (the amount, price and name of product) while receive data from microcontroller implemented on the cart that is how may items, which item and how much for that item customer purchases. This will make shopping more easy and comfortable.

The main technologies that play a vital role in this proposed system are;

We proposed the system that eliminates many problems faced by customers as well as by the cashier and advances their method of payment. The Smart Shopping System has the prospective to make your shopping easy and systematic to the customer.

Benefits of the Project Technical Details of Final Deliverable

 Shopping and purchasing items in malls and supermarkets has become a daily routine. In most of these malls and supermarkets after the customer purchases the items and goes to the billing counter for paying the bill, the cashier uses barcode system to scan the item and generate the bill which is long and time consuming process and this leads to long queues at the billing counters. To overcome the above mentioned problem, we have used RFID instead of barcode in our Smart Shopping System. We are proposing such a system that has additional functionality which will calculate and

update the customers bill when they add the product in their trolley. We have proposed a system that uses RFID reader that can scan the tags and display the bill on LCD screen, also the RFID is connected to IOT which update or send the product related information to the application. The customer pays the bill via Easypaisa account linked to the smart shopping application.The main component of proposed system are explained as follows;

RFID: RFID is a specific term utilized for systems which use radio wave to naturally distinguish things. RFID is a technology that permits exchange of information using radio signals labels and tags. In the proposed system we are using RFID reader and tags instead of barcode for online billing. In this scheme the item can be read by the RFID reader and the total of the item is showed on the LCD screen. Our proposed smart cart will be capable of generating a bill within the cart, and provides centralized and automatic billing system.

LCD SCREEN: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from an HDMI-compliant source device, such as a display controller, to a compatible computer monitorvideo projectordigital television, or digital audio device. HDMI is a digital replacement for analog video standard.

MICROCONTROLLER: We use Raspberry Pi as a microcontroller. It is a control unit which is a low-cost computer having compact size and utilize low power. It supports LINUX operating system and also has an SD card. It supports all kinds of languages, networking and devices and also supports multi-functions.

SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION:

PYTHON: Python is an interpreted, object-oriented programming language with dynamic semantics. Python is simple, easy to learn syntax emphasizes readability and therefore reduces cost of program maintenance.

IOT: The internet of things refers to the ever growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address for internet connectivity, and the communication that occurs between these objects and other internet enabled devices and systems.
