Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryPhase change Material (PCM) is an isothermal energy-saving material with higher latent heat storage density. Power generation from renewable energy sources fluctuates with time and so the demand for energy storage when abundantly available is increasing. PCM’s potential is evaluated for such energy storage. PCM can also be used for building energy conservation purposes. This project will evaluate different material potential to be used for PCM to store energy in building applications. The main focus of this project would be the Asian region, basically on Pakistan. The selected city is Islamabad.
Project Objectives- Investigation of thermal properties of PCMs accurately.
- Study of PCMs for thermal energy storage (TES) applications.
- To evaluate different materials' (PCMs) potential to store energy.
- Selection of specific phase change materials (PCMs) for analysis according to the required application.
- Determination of differential scanning calorimetric parameters.
- Evaluation of thermal conductivity.
- Measuring Specific heat capacity of PCM(s).
- Simulation and modeling according to the thermal properties of PCM(s).
- Experimental Investigation of parameters for selected PCM(s).
- Identifying the best suitable PCM for our application.
This project will provide an elegant solution, inexpensive method, and efficient energy storage using Phase Change Materials (PCMs) that will improve the performance of energy systems and fill the gap between energy supply and energy demand; giving the possibility of conserving the energy.
