Project Summary

The market of automobile maintenance and spare parts distribution has risen due to increasing number of vehicles on road. As there is not any dedicated platform available in Pakistan for the cases of automotive emergency and spare part replacement the vehicle owners have to spend a lot of time to visit and search every corner of market. Spare and Repair application will provide a unique platform to the vehicle owners where they can get details and order automotive spare parts along with option to request for a mechanic/technician to set up that part and also get repair/maintenance services that automotive vendors/dealers will post/upload to the system. Reviews/rating feature will also be integrated in the system for users to select from various automotive spare parts vendors/dealers and repair/maintenance service providers. Spare and Repair application will also provide the users a community-based platform where registered users will be able to help each other by discussing automotive issues, physically going on the spot from where the emergency alert was generated or by sharing automotive spare parts. Moreover, the system will be designed using the machine learning and data mining techniques to enhance the users’ experience of the system.

Project Objectives

This system has an aim to provide a unique platform for different automotive dealers and distributors to post their available auto spare parts to the application for the access of public everywhere. Some of the key objectives of the system are stated below.

  • Provide a significant application for the general public, to check, compare and select the suitable auto spare parts and maintenance services in the specified geographical location.
  • Improve purchase and maintenance process of automotive parts and promote community-based support platform.
  • Establish a platform to help the local Vendors and automotive parts dealers to boost their businesses.
  • Introduce an easy way for vendors and dealers to post and notify their offers/discounts to larger audience just by using single platform rather than different mechanisms.
  • Make it easy for users to get adequate information about the automotive spare parts that they can purchase just by exploring all the available vendors at a single place.
  • Make it easy for users to choose a better option/service through the reviews and ratings given by other users.
  • Create a community-based environment for users where they can help other by using the provided platform.

Project Implementation Method

The Figure above depicts system architecture for Spare and Repair which shows a user with an android device along with the website of system, both connected to internet, can browse the user interface, where he/she is first authorised (if not already) and then can login by matching users data stored in the database located on the server side. Users can then use all provided features (modules) by the system which are described below.

  • Both the customers and vendors will be able to create their accounts and then login to use the services/features provided by the system. Authorisation of vehicle owners and vender/service providers will be separate. 
  • Vendors will be able to post the automotive spare parts and maintenance services they are providing to users. System will allow them to add, modify and remove automotive spare parts, maintenance services or the details like price, availability, quantity and description on the system. 
  • Customers will be able to check the details of spare parts and order which ever they find suitable by browsing through a collection of products uploaded/posted by the vendors/dealers.  System will also enable the customers to filter out the spare parts by specifying vendors, categories, price, vehicle model etc. 
  • System will display information about the repair/maintenance services and customers will be able to book/request the service anytime and from any place. Here, system will allow customer to select his car from list, give a brief detail about the problem he/she facing, specify a location and time.

  • In case of emergency, the system will allow customers to send an alert message to the other users so others can see and come to help. The alert message will be generated by using the GPS to get current location of user in trouble and other users within 3 kilometres distance from that place will get a notification so that any volunteer can come for helping the user in emergency on that received location from that alert message. 

Benefits of the Project

Technological developments have taken charge of almost every task of our daily routine. Every task can be done without going anywhere through online applications and websites. This idea is proposed for the same purpose to motivate and enhance the auto mobile industry by providing an easy to use platform for everyone which is beneficial for both, customers and vendors. Although there are many websites and applications of auto spare parts and service providers for public to view the product and dealers’ details but there is no such platform where people can see all the available products of all the auto dealer, vendors at one place. We believe that auto mobile users and other individuals will use this platform to view details and information about their vehicles’ spare parts and maintenance services. Automotive dealers, vendors, distributors and service providers will use this platform to enhance their businesses by informing and posting information about their available spare parts at a single platform which is for the sake of public and can be seen by everyone using this application.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This Project provides Web Interface and Android Interface as final deliverables. The technical details are mentioned below:

  • Client side of Web Interface is developed using REACT JS Library.
  • Client side of Android Interface is developed using Java and Android Studio.
  • Application Program Interfaces (APIs) are developed using PHP Data Objects (PDO) which is an interface for accessing databases in PHP.
