Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryFrom olden days we are using non-renewable sources of energy in excess amount for our needs. As minerals like coal etc. are exhausting, we must depend on the renewable sources of energy like solar, wind, etc. There are many other sources that can be used for pumping water i.e. diesel engine driven pump, manually powered pump and grid powered pump, but such schemes have some drawbacks like Steady increase in the fuel prices has made such schemes costly which further increases the cost of water for irrigation and local feeding.High maintenance is required for these schemes.Grid powered pumps cannot be used in all the areas due to the low grid power attention in our country. Our project “Solar based Automatic Irrigation System” not only meets with the above-mentioned issues but also have additional feature of automatic water level control.
Project Objectives1) To develop the mechanism which facilitates irrigation system by measuring moisture level in soil continuously.
2) To promate the use of renewable energy in agriculture sector.
3) To minimize the farmer's manual work in the field.
Project Implementation MethodThe proposed system consists of two main parts, solar pumping and automatic irrigation part. Solar panel charges the battery through charge controller. From the battery, supply is given to the motor and controller after voltage regulation in this work. Here the sensing circuit controls the motor. The sensors used are soil moisture sensor, temperature & humidity sensor. The sensor detects the values of soil moisture, temperature &humidity at different points in the field. Microcontroller according to pre-set value compares the measured values. Based on the error between the pre-set and measured values, motor ON/OFF condition is controlled.
Benefits of the Project1) Photovoltaic power is more cost-competitive when used to power an irrigation system.
2) The proposed project is a model to modernize the agriculture industries on a small scale with optimum expenditure.
3) Using this system, one can save manpower (auto on/off the pump) and water to improve production and ultimately profit.
