Smart wearable for Autism
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryIndividuals with autism are dealing with spectrum of challenges on daily basis, which do not let them to live a quality life. These challenges solely variate on every single individual on the spectrum without even having a single similarity with the other individual on the spectrum. To address core deficiencies, there are interventions and medical treatment to make their livings possible. But autistic adults and children have spontaneous attraction for technology and they pay more attention to objects than to people, therefore there is need of assistive technology to serve as intervention for the range of spectrum disorder with the aim of improving quality of life. In this project, we have proposed an assistive smart ecosystem comprises: smart wearable sensing device for predicting, detecting and gathering quantified data, cloud infrastructure for data storage and processing using deep learning techniques, and a companion application for monitoring. This smart sensing wearable device will generate alerts at real-time for the imminent emotional, behavioral and physical abnormalities. Using ridge-regularized logistic regression classifiers, smart wearable will predict the imminent abnormalities to help the autistic individual’s caregivers, so that they can also take some measures.
Project ObjectivesThe primary objective of this project is to develop a smart assistive environment for people with autism spectrum disorder. We are planning to present a real time, cost effective, independent framework for people with ASD.
The major objectives of this project are:
- To develop a wearable smart device to detect an episode of meltdown beforehand.
- To notify the caregivers by generating alerts through SMS and notification on the linked app about the meltdown so, that precautions are taken accordingly.
- To develop an adaptive application for monitoring autistic child’s behavior.
The primary benefits of the project are :
- To provide 24/7 assistance not only to autistic children but to their parents as well.
- To create a carefree envirnoment for autism with the surrondings.
- To provide an insight of their situation to their therapist.
- The alerts will be generated through mobile SMS which is more convinient to approach.
The sensors will detect the body physical and physiological parameters that are temperature of the body, pulse rate, body movement, electroconductivity of skin and exact pin location of the autistic child. The cloud infrastructure is responsible for the synchronization processing and storage of the data.
