Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryIn this project, we wanted to design a cap that will help the visually impaired person navigate through the obstacle. It uses an ultra-sonic sensor to detect the obstacle and tell the wearer through the vibrator the closer the obstacle gets the more intense the vibrator becomes. We also added a GPS system that would tell us the location of the wearer.
Project Objectives- To Design and develop a prototype of a system that will help visually impaired people.
- To defect the obstacles & inform the intensity of risk to the visually impaired person
- To track the visually impaired person through GPS
This project consist of ultra-sonic sensor on 4 sides of the cap that will detect the obstacles and send it to the micro controller then the micro controller sends the output to the vibrator. If the obstacles are far but in range then the vibrator vibrates at low intensity and when the obstacles gets closer the intensity for the vibrator increase which allows the wearer to know how far the obstacles are.
Benefits of the ProjectThis project will help the visually impaired person in his navigation through the daily obstacles. He will be able to distinguish how far an object is. Also if the wearer is lost the caretaker can track him via a GPS system.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final project will be deliverable will be a hardware system a wearable cap that will have a sensor on 4 sides with a vibrator on the same sides and an Arduino that will take input from the sensor and send output to the vibrator the is also a GPS module and Wi-Fi module that is used as a tracking device which is connected with the personal hotspot of the phone of the wearer.
