Energy crisis are on the top in our country. There must be smart solutions for each problem. World is moving on smart things like smart city, smart buildings, smart grid etc. We are designing efficient and smart street light for our country.

This Smart street lightening will be based on Piezoelectricity which works on piezoelectric effect. Wherein, when the pressure is applied on piezoelectric material electric power is produced. 

This principal can be used to power the street lights. On a busy road the piezoelectric material will be installed on the road and vehicle while running on the road will exert the pressure on them, this will generate the power to energies the street lights.

The country is facing the energy crises and these street lights consume sufficient amount of power, transferring them to piezoelectricity will lower the burden on the power requirement of our country. Comparing to the street lights based on solar system they have less maintenance, low expenditures and have higher efficiency due to their power generating capabilities during night time. 

Energy harvested through this method is environmental friendly and the extra power can be sold to the grid to generate the revenue for the local town council. This project, when implemented on the large scale will eventually produce the job market for the skilled labor.

In our country there are plenty of busy roads in metropolitan city where this project can be implemented to contribute a great cause in the development, security, energy saving, beautification, environmental safety of a city. Thus, these street lights based on Piezoelectricity play a vital role for smart city initiatives.

Due to development of technology smartness can be done using IOT (internet of things). IOT, the internet of things, refers to the billions of physical devices around the world that are now connected to the internet,all collecting and sharing data. IOT based techniques are used to monitoring the health of Street lights.

Project Objectives

 This idea is basically startup-based and we will market in Pakistan as well as globally.

 1) idea is to support local manufacturing in our country.

 2) Create new job opportunities based on new skills.

 3) This project will be commercialized locally as well as         internationally. 

 4) To make a street lighting system which is more efficient,       cost effective and a reliable with low maintenance.

 5) To lower the power burden from the national grid by       reducing the consumption of the street lights in metropolitan cities.

 6) To make the use of piezoelectric material on the busy roads to harvest the Electrical power generated due the pressure of the electric vehicle.

7) To the energies the street lights from the power harvested from the Piezoelectric material and power them in a efficient and reliable way.

 8)  Remote monitoring and switching can be obtained using IOT.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

 Smart Street Lighting aims at increasing the efficiency of street lights by automating their control, as and when, required, without using any external supply. The vehicles moving on the road tends to vibration of the piezoelectric material placed below the road due to deformation, caused by the pressure of vehicle passing. Piezoelectricity is an electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials (such as crystals, certain ceramics) in response to applied mechanical stress. The electricity generated from one piezo is quite small and not useful for practically, thus we have an array of piezoelectric transducers. Considering the large number of piezo arrays and huge pressure applied by heavy vehicles, the electricity generated increases. The electricity generated from these transducers is further rectified and regulated using, energy harvesting circuit. Now this instantaneous energy is not used directly but the electricity generated throughout the day is stored in batteries. Hence, the cumulative amount of electricity stored in the battery is high enough for powering of street lights. There is also an automation circuit which controls the street lights, according to, whether it is day or night, and also changes the intensity of street lights on the basis of density of vehicles, at any given time. Street lights will be off in the day and will turn on automatically at night. At night street lights will glow with high density if there is a fair amount of traffic, else street lights will glow at low intensity, further saving the energy.

Due to development of technology smartness can be done through IOT(internet of things).IOT describes the network of physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.IOT based technologies are used to monitoring the health of street lights and controlling of it.
