The aim of our project is to design and program a smart scanner device to autonomously check the exam papers to reduce the faculty work load and increase the efficiency. The device does not only reduce the work load but also cheaper so everyone can approach to it. This is specially designed to check answers of multiple choice questions initially to help educational organizations to overcome their workload, transparency and human error issues.We proposed a technological system to help in generating the results quickly. We will add a raspberry pi 3 camera in the smart scanner forscanning the papers containing answers of multiple choice questions.
We proposed this scanner to help organizations and faculty members to check and generate results without doing any intensive effort. The Scanner will scan quickly in no time. Visual algorithms will detect the images that contain answers of multiple choice questions and generate results.
Project ObjectivesWe list the objectives of the proposed project.
- Purchase the required equipment to build the scanner.
- Build the smart scanner fast enough like heavy duty printer and scan in good quality.
- Configure and tune the scanner to work easily and feed pages.
- Incorporating visual camera to the scanner to enable the computer vision algorithm to work with scanner.
- Scan and detect pages and apply machine learning algorithms. At the initial stage we use the project to solve the objective (multiple choice questions).
- Produce automatic result and publish online.
Our aim is to build smart scanner to scan papers autonomously at the speed of 60 pages per minute. We apply the computer vision and machine learning methods to enable the smart scanner to detect the answers and generate results. Here are some implementation methods:
- We build a printer like device to scan the examination papers.
- Feeding pages that are kept in the input tray to the stage for scanning.
- Transmission of visual data through the camera fixed on the scanner.
- The Computer vision algorithm will detect exam papers and generate the results.

- The device will not only scan the document but the visual algorithms will help to generate the results automatically that helps to improve the transparency and accuracy.
