Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe project undertaken is using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition),for wirelessly controlling an oil rig. The project enables the controlling of oil rig from offshore as well. Main purpose of this project is to monitor the main pipe line from the oil rig to the reservoir and troubleshoot it in case of oil spill that is connected to the oil rig and main oil tank. In case of oil spill it will indicate the location of oil spill to post guard through GSM. Extreme weather conditions are being monitored and emergency situations are being reported to the concern department and they would take precaution in mean time. And we will also have full control and supervision over the oil rig from main server. In case of any emergency our system will automatically contact to the concerned department for rescue.
Project Objectives- To detect oil spill.
- To make the oil rig and server connected for controlling and monitoring the plant from server in case of failures.
- To make system more smarter
- To provide an emergency system , which will send signals to the concerned department for solving the problem immediately.
There are several steps implement to complete the project in which the most necessary step is the selection of sensors and PLC module which is ideal for the project. Firstly we completed the programming which is necessary for our project. Through SCADA we are controlling and monitoring oil rig wirelessly. The pressure sensors on different points helps to prevent the oil from spilling ,if the oil spills the system will deliver a message and isolate the effected part. A level sensor helps to determine the level of tank, whenever the tank reaches to the maximum level the drilling will automatically will be stop. Fire sensor is also placed in case of fire the system will generate a message to fire department through GSM module. A tsunami detecting sensor is also placed which will generate an alert message to the concerned department.
