Project Title

SMART IOT BASED SOLAR PANEL DEFECTS DETECTION USING DRONES TECHONOLGY

Project Area of Specialization Mechatronics EngineeringProject Summary

In this project, we are designing a system for the detection of defects in the solar panels, that reduces the overall production rate. Our aim is to do the detection of solar panels with less time consuming and reduce the human efforts. Our system mainly based on a Drone, equipped with a thermal camera, use for the thermal imaging of solar panels.

Project Objectives

Our project is mainly based on three Objectives, these are as follows.

1. To design a system that include drone and thermal camera to inspect and monitor solar plant panels rapidly.

2. To take those thermal images and using deep learning algorithm (CNN ALGORITHM) to detect the defects of solar panels using thermal images.

3. Those thermal images with defected panels were send through cloud based systems where operator can easily inspect those defects in thermal image and solar panel were to be then easily monitered.

Project Implementation Method

Our project implementation Method will be as follows

1. Start inspection by giving input to drone using Remote Controller.

2. Now, taking thermal images of solar panels using thermal camera.

3. Now these images will be send to cloud based system to analyze the defected panels.

4. If any defect is found, then it will notify the operator about the defected panel.

5. Now the defected panel can be easily modified or replaced.

Benefits of the Project

Following are the main benefits of this project

1. It will reduce human effort

2. It will consumes less time than traditionally inspection.

3. It is more accurate and more flexible.

4. It will reduce the overall cost for inspection.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our project consist of a Quadcopter drone with thermal camera for the detection of solar panels. We use Quadcopter drone beacuse it is easy to control, and is very much flexible. Thermal camera module is used which work as a thermal camera.
