Project Summary

Electric Supply office sends the consumption bill for the previous month depending on the consumption as indicated by the conventional electric meter placed in domestic premises or business place. The consumer than going to the electricity office stands in front of a long queue to pay the bill. This process is very much cumbersome and hazardous and also very cost-effective both for the suppliers and the users. Advance researches on energy meters develop many new and cost-efficient technologies to construct energy meters that help at the same time to improve the billing system as well as the payment system.

Nowadays reading-taking method of electrical energy is very old. As the manual meter reading method is unreliable since the human error rate is very high also theft or corruption is probable.  As the financial situation of WAPDA or Pakistan, in general, is very unstable, this unreliable method of meter reading affects the economy of the country. Inspired by this we propose a different method. The smart energy meter with theft detrition, the ultimate solution to this basic problem. In addition to sending reading digitally through IoT, it also provides additional information such as the monthly cost of units utilized, voltage, current, real power, apparent power, reactive power, and power factor reading.

We also use an integrated solar system with WAPDA so we can use electricity in case of load shedding without any trouble. When WAPDA is not available then our load will be transferred to the solar system and the supply of electricity will be continuous without any trouble.

Project Objectives

The main objective of  this project is to design a smart home energy management system Iot Based that utilizes the solar source and WAPDA source for continuous power supply in an intelligent way. Both these sources are integrated and are used according to the requirement to minimize the cost of electricity. Hence,

  • To implementing and designing a home energy management system that gives users detailed information about their energy consumptions, sense permitting, control, and develop smart algorithms with the application of solar energy as a source of electricity for domestic households.
  •  To control and monitor the different sources of energy i.e., both renewable and conventional sources.

Project Implementation Method

  1. Working with Proteus 8.6 for circuit simulation and testing
  2. learnning C programming language for the controller to program it as per our need.
  3. Study ICs [like IR2112 & MOSFET/IGBT, MOSFET working].
  4. In depth study of PWM, SPWM techniques.
  5. Designing and testing of Energy meter.
  6. Implement PWM and SPWM in my project for 50Hz wave generation.
  7. Development and simulation of Battery charger from Solar Panel.
  8. Designing Simulation and testing of Driver circuit for MOSFET/IGBTs switching.
  9. Complete H bridge designing and testing
  10. Programming for Pure Sine Wave Inverter.
  11. Conversion from 12V in to 230V & 50Hz
  12. Output voltage and current monitoring of the inverter.
