Smart Home (iot)
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe aim of this project was to build a home automation system so that the householder could dial into their house with a modem, from the office or even the other side of the world, and control their home appliances.
The main part of the system had to be microprocessor based, because of the requirement to communicate intelligently with a person at the other end of a telephone line. A reasonably powerful system was chosen to perform the task competently. This formed a flexible multipurpose system not tied to this project. The modem input was replaced with a computer terminal because I did not have access to two telephone lines for testing.
The main control unit talks to a module fitted in each appliance, which contains a small custom- programmed microcontroller. Originally I intended the module to communicate with the main system over the mains wiring, but problems caused by not having direct mains access meant a wire link had to be used instead. This was designed to be easily converted to a mains link if required.
Overall, the system works, but the software could be substantially improved. This is a large project, so it was not possible to refine it in the time available.
Project Objectives- To design an application through which we wirelessly control different
- household appliances which has an enormous convenience factor.
- To construct a smart house model in such a way that it is intelligent and
- cost effective.
- To develop a project while keeping in consideration different factors of
- power utilization.
- This IOT based smart home project must be user friendly.
- To design the project in such a manner that is easy to implement in homes and offices.
This project is not intended to be used by public user because he needs to have a proper iot setup to use this project. there is not a General design for this project so it depends on the user requirements every user has his own requirements according to his requirements we have to set up the hardware to control your home appliances.
Benefits of the Project- Managing all of your home
- Flexibility for new devices and appliancesdevices from one place
- Maximizing home security. When you incorporate security and surveillance features in your smart home network
- Remote control of home functions. Don’t underestimate the power of being able to control your home’s functions from a distance
- Increased energy efficiency. Depending on how you use your smart-home technology, it’s possible to make your space more energy-efficient
- Improved appliance functionality. Smart homes can also help you run your appliances better
- Home management insights. There’s also something to be said for your ability to tap into insights on how your home operates
we are making smart devices for normal houshold user.
A user can simply install the device and configure it with their WiFi to use it with the designed applications.
Some of the appliances are as follows:
- Smart Bulb
- Speed controlled fan
- Smart RFID based door lock
The application is availble from appstore and a guidance would be provided to pair the smart devices with an account to control them using voice commands.
Application features:
- Weather station (shows real time weather and humidity)
- Control Light bulb
- Control speed of Fan
- Main door lock/unlock
All the above features could be controled with a tap and also with voice commands.
Further more all of these appliances could also be controlled manually without smart phone in case of no internet e.g. with a normal switches installed in the house.
The door lock comes with a key as well as RFID tags, so that incase of loadshedding the door could be open with a key.
Further more if we get some more time we can also create a battery power bank for some of the appliances mainly the smart lock.
