Smart Helmet
Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject Summary Motorcycle accidents are unexpected events. The number of accidents is also increasing day by day. Currently there is no technologybeing used to prevent such events. A smart helmet is a special idea which makes motorcycle driving safer than before. . In this system we use vibration sensor, RF transmitter, Receiver, pressure sensor, GPS and GSM/WI-FI to achieve our goal. With the help of this system bike will not start, until he/she wears helmet. This is implemented using RF transmitter and receiver, RF transmitter is fitted in helmet and receiver is located on bike. A transmitter on Smart-Helmet generates a signal on the basis of mentioned conditions with the help of a switch and then sends it to the receiver on the bike through the RF transmitter. Receiver decodes the signals and takes actionaccording to decoded signals. The bike will start only when helmet is wore by rider. In case of accident message sent to registered number through GSM/WI-FI along with location with the help of GPS module. In case of minor injuries the rider press a buzzer located in helmet and message sent to register number the rider is safe.
Objective of this Project is to design an intelligent or smart helmet, which act as a monitoring system for its rider, this embedded system is consists of the Sensors network with Communication modules, which helps to send alert message to his/her family.
The objectives of this project are to design the circuit that can save life of motorcyclists, to develop a smart safety helmet for rider.
There are some techniques which we will use in this application.
Primary TechniquesResearch was done to get to know about the importance of helmet and death rate due to road accident.
Secondary Techniques- Document Analysis
This technique gives us the information on how the existing system works.
System Analysis and Design TechniquesIn this project, we will use Object Oriented System development methodology (OOSD) for design.
This technique has several phases some of them are:
- Object Oriented Analysis (OOA)
We will use this phase to model the function of system and identifying the relation between them.
- Object Oriented Design (OOD)
In this phase, we will use the software to clarify the model of our project.
Tools Software:Ardunio
HardwareGSM modem (900 MHz)/WI-FI
GPS receiver (2.3 GHz)
RF transmitter and receiver (47 MHz)
Vibration sensor
Benefits of the ProjectHelmets for riders are very important and many lives can be saved by the use of these helmets
1.In many accidents people met with brain injuries, If they wear helmet they can save themselves from brain and face injuries.
2. It has emergency features which come in handy during accidents.
3. Wearing a helmet reduces the risk and increases the chances of survival.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableRoad accidents are unexpected events. The number of accidents is increasing day by day. Currently there is no technologybeing used to prevent such events. A smart helmet is a special idea which makes motorcycle driving safer than before.
In this system we use vibration sensor, RF transmitter, Receiver, pressure sensor, GPS and GSM/WI-FI to achieve our goal.
An RF module (short for radio-frequency module) is a small electronic device used to transmit or receive radio signals between two devices. This was further improvised by where the safety helmet system included a vibration sensor, GSM and GPS/WI-FI modules that could track the person and send a message to family members.
GPS, or the Global Positioning System, is a global navigation satellite system that provides location, velocity and time synchronization. You can find GPS systems in your car, your Smartphone and your watch. GPS helps you get where you are going, from point A to point B.Andthe Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is a standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe the protocols for second-generation (2G) digital cellular networks used by mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets. In this system we also use Arduino software/hardware .Arduino is an open-source hardware and software company, project and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices.
In today’s world vehicles accidents are one of the main causes for increase in the death. This death rate can be reduced by forwarding a message and the location of the accident to the victim’s family and concerned authorities who can take the necessary action in a timely manner. In many cases the delay in giving the appropriate medical treatment is the major cause of death after an accident. In this project a GPS and a GSM/WI-FI module is embedded in the helmet which can provide the exact location of the accident.
