But in Pakistan, still facing power outages and most power plants depend on fossil fuels as well increasing number of carbon emissions daily, we see high air pollution in the major cities as well as smog in the winter season, this kind of bad air causing many diseases among sensitive groups. So our project smart energy eco-friendly street light with IOT based surveillance is a hybrid combination of solar and wind power and will generate enough energy to power itself and will send the excess energy create by wind and solar in to a dc grid (Reperesented by a battery in our project). This street light will reduce the load of a light up from the national grid as well as contributed in the generation of energy. For air pollution, we are integrating the system with algae water-based air purifying system, this air purifier is scientifically proven to remove 98% of harmful substances from the air and can convert carbon dioxide to oxygen under the influence of sunlight. This street lighting system is equipped with IoT which means that its operation can be monitored on a mobile application.Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) provides a reliable and battery-efficient connection between your server and devices that allows you to deliver and receive messages and notifications on  Android, and the web. In the addition to it, this is also equipped with a iot base camera for surveillance purposes.

Project Objectives

Our aims and objective for this project are listed as follows. We aim for this project is reduction of energy consumption, and generation more green energy that can reduced the effect of global warming, our system of air purification make clean air. Purification of air because heavy amount of carbon emitting the in the air by industries and vehicles. Hazard free street light due to no direct connection from AC current, and not connected to incoming voltage from grid. Hence, for some reasons pole fell on the ground it won’t conduct electricity or if it’s get wet from rain it won’t conduct electricity, in either conditions pole is not going to conduct electrical energy, this step is consider after seeing recent death from electrocution in wet season of Karachi. Our objectives is make street light compatible with solar module and cylindrical wind turbine system in order to generate enough energy 24/7 to power the street light and to store the energy in DC storage for further uses. As in summer season we have seen an increase in power outages season, the street light will produce from energy on its own. In order to provide better air we are planning to make algae water based air purifier consisting of DC air pumps that can get rid of dust, smoke and other harmful substance in the air, the algae water has proven to produced oxygen from carbon dioxide under UV rays or sunlight, so we don’t need replace the filter so, being more cost effective. The filter is light on maintenance.

Project Implementation Method

The system implementation method process is described as follows step,

The development of this project is divided into two parts hardware and software. For the software, we put simulation on the Arduino and run some tests to check whether the programming of this microcontroller is doing fine or not, after multiple fail attempts, we finally get it right and run the code on the microcontroller. The hardware for this project is tested and finalized, and the design of this project is also finalized and done assembling the project. The design of this smart energy harvesting, eco-friendly street light is undergone by considering many parameters like the strength of the pole, weight, strength of the wind turbine, and the placement where it going to be on the pole. So the design of street light is like, on the top of street light we placed wind turbine and underneath it, we placed solar back led light. At the height of 3 feet, we placed algae water-based air filter. The wind turbine and solar back led produces DC power which use to light up the led in dark hours as well as used for air filter 24 hours. The remaining power sends to dc storage for further usage. And after completing all the work, then we move on to developing the application for this project, where it will show the live operation details 24 hours, as well as showing all the parameters of this project. In the end, we done all the final testing.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of this project are as follows which include unsustainable goals,

·         This kind of air purification is based on the algae water-based air filter which removed 98% of harmful substances from the air and converts it into more breathable.

·         All the operation of this street light is easily monitored on the mobile application. Showing all the parameters as well as all the values.

·         This project also follows UN sustainable energy goals, no. 07 and no. 13.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The technical details of this project are as given;

This street light is work on the combination of two solar and renewable energies and wind energies. The combined energy is enough to power the street light and air purification system as well as send the excess energy back Dc grid (which represents the dc storage on the system), the solar panel is capable of generating 150 watts and the wind turbine is capable of generating up to 110 watts.

The algae water-based air purification system can convert harmful air into breathable air, this can remove 98% of harmful substances from the air with the ability to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen under the influence of sunlight or UV rays. This kind of air filter is one of the first in Pakistan. This air filter does not affect the environment, its filter decomposes easily.

The operation of this project depends on the microcontroller Arduino nano, it controls all operation of it via sensor and closed feedback, and the esp-32 wifi module communicated with Arduino and send the operation values on the mobile application via firebase connection. It shows all the generating values from the solar and wind as well as their voltages and current values, battery status, and their health, also showing the air intake and outlet for the air purification system. Also providing the camera feedback from the system for security purposes.
