Due to the world's fast growing move toward digitalization there is also a need to move toward digitalization for selection or election process. Most of the countries are still using conventional voting systems. There are some types of voting system: ballot paper, voicenote, hand rising vote and even though, the recent EVM proposed for ECP (Election Comission of Pakistan) based general elections has vanished all of the possibilities of rigging in voting procedure yet it lacks the smartness in it. But one of the most enhanced e-voting system is smart e-voting system because smart EVMs are electronically equipped to process for election, subject to biometric authentication and takes less time for polling votes and announcement of the results. This research work is important for Pakistan in the current situation. Our country is also moving towards elections through EVM to be fast, secure, free & fair elections. Currently Pakistan launched an EVM machine for the general election but that machine needs improvements in terms of smartness, i.e it has no IoT or operating system due to which EVM will have no interlink with other polling stations and ultimately the results will go manually and take more time to announce overall results. But Smart electronic voting machines based on IOT will take less time to announce overall result & have an IOT and operating system, which interlink EVM machines to each other. Using GSM module, the message will be sent to voter’s mobile that he has successfully casted the vote so that he can verify easily without any confusion. The smart EVM research work will be helpful for the government or any organization.
Our project presents a paradigm shift from the e-voting to smart electronic voting machines. Smart Electronic voting machines have advanced features. We have improved the smart electronic voting machine through current technologies. The prototype product of our FYP will be first tested on the model of governing body (GB) elections of Pakistan engineering council (PEC) as per guidelines of these election to be received from PEC. A pool of valid engineers voters will be targeted instead of using NADRA database so that to avoid the constraints or limitation of NADRA for biometric authentication of valid voters.
Furthermore the existing EVM proposed for Election Commission of Pakistan was claimed for its cost per machine to be 65000 PKR, if the order has to be placed for multiple copies. While our proposed IoT based smart EVM has the total cost for the first prototype machine is 60000 PKR and this cost will definitly be reduce if the order is to be placed for multiple copies through any approved vendor.
Recently proposed EVM by ECP don't have IOT due to which thier result is conventional and delayed. Smart EVM will have IOT in which result will be faster and convient.
Voter will identified by thier fingerprint. No illegal vote willbe possible. identification for rigging attempts in polling station will be possible in smart EVM
After casting vote, the voter can easily check his voting history through open source MIT app.
Overall result will be given in less time.

In our proposed project we use GSM module in order to increase the speed and security of the voting system. Using GSM module, the message will be sent to voter’s mobile that he has successfully casted the vote so that he can verify easily without any confusion. Then another new technology used here is IOT which is the most significant in this concept. Using IOT the counted votes can be easily sent to the total database server so that the overall counted votes and the elected panel that can be announced easily. Using of state of Embedded and IOT Technology, we can transfer the voted data online to the MASTER server unit. Before starting of voting procedure using smart EVM's in all of individual polling stations, the presiding officers will make sure in front of all the poling agents of different contesting panels that IOT switch is not being connected with operating system and a blank/initial result of all candidates is to be announced using smart EVM before any formal vote casting process. The first step is biometric authentication and then it compares with the engineer card database and it also check whether the person has already casted the vote or not. If he is already casted then a mechanism makes the buzzer alarm and the error message appears and he is not able to cast the vote so that we can avoid misconceptions during elections. If he is not already casted the vote then the EVM button is enabled so that he cast the vote successfully and after casting the vote, the individual’s mobile will receive a message that he has successfully casted the vote so that he can make sure that he has casted the vote, and the voter can easily access the voting history. At the end of voting the presiding officer will press the enable button for announcement of results of the single polling station. this result will be get signed from all the polling agents (PA's) of different contesting panels and the last moment the presiding officer of all individual polling stations will connect the IOT switch in front of all agents so that interlink with the operating system and announcement of overall result and individual result of the relevant polling station which will be get signed from all the polling agent again in order to avoid any kind of electronic rigging or hacking attempts.
