Smart Electronic Voting Machine Using RFID and Face Recognition Methods
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryPakistan has long struggled with the fact that it has never had true democracy in power. The main reason for this is because it has never been led by competent leadership. People are suspicious of elections, elected entities, and the democratic environment in which they can freely cast their votes.
There are several problems that make the election controversial. The main issues are:
- It's difficult to appoint polling employees.
- The number of staff required for polling increases, as the number of polling stations are increased.
- The printing and distribution of a large number of ballot papers at voting sites costs billions of dollars, which is unacceptably expensive for a developing country like Pakistan.
- The ballot papers are counted by the Presiding Officers, but human counting is slow and easy to mistake, implying an ultimate tragedy in the democratic process.
To improve the election process, the proposed project explains the design and operation of a smart voting system that uses Arduino, RFID, and facial recognition. To prevent electoral fraud and ensuring the country's elections are conducted safely, securely, reliably, transparently, and smoothly. The project is about an innovative voting method in which the gadget connects with an RFID tag embedded in the voter ID card. The controller examines the voter's ID when he scans his card, and if it matches, the vote may be accessible. By employing an image processing technology, the voter's face is matched with the database picture; if the person is confirmed, the individual is permitted to vote, and this procedure is repeated for each person.
Project ObjectivesThe following is a list of the study's objectives:
- To make an automated smart rigging free voting system using face recognition.
- To make ballot paper-free electronic election system.
- To develop a such system in which whole system works itself without employing voting staff.
Radio Frequency Identification Module, facial recognition technology, and a desktop application are all included in the smart voting system. Every voter will be required to have an identity card with RFID, and the system will compare the information held in the system database to verify the voter. The system features face detection and recognition technologies for identification verification. Following that, a candidate's name will be presented on screen based on their voter's constituency location, and a "Vote" button will be offered for each contender. To vote for his or her preferred candidate, the voter only needs to hit the vote button. The voting will be anonymous, and each vote will be automatically counted. This will boost voter turnout, lower election expenses, and enhance the accuracy of the results. Once the user has cast their vote, the information about the voters will be automatically removed from the application interface.
Benefits of the ProjectThis proposed system will be advantageous in different ways:
- An economical and automated voting system which is free from rigging.
- The results of voting may be generated rapidly and automatically.
- Just one vote can be casted by one person so the EVM reduces the possibilities of the fake votes.
- The EVMs are run by the batteries, so these machines can be used in those areas whereas there is no electricity.
- The system contains a database of voters and candidate; thus the results can be verified at any stage.
- This suggested system is uninterruptible, centralised, cost-effective, and time-centric.
Our project is based on both methods i.e. Hardware and software.
The hardware used in the implementation of this project are:
1. Arduino Uno
2. RFID Module
3. Camera
4. Buzzer
5. LCD
6. I2C Module
7. Stepdown Transformer
8. Voltage Regulator
9. Indicating LED
10. Computer
The study looked at the usage of a smart voting system that proposes a desktop software that is far more secure than the current approach. Face recognition and RFID verification will be used to verify voters. Only confirmed people are allowed to vote. Voters are only allowed to vote once. As a result, repeated voting or virtual voting are not permitted. This suggested method will set a voting time restriction and allow people to vote only during that time.
The software used in the implementation of this project are:
- Arduino IDE
- Visual Studio
In these software we can be doing all type of programming and coding relating Facial Recognition and RFID.
