A smart electricity meter with internet of things to minimize the man power and time required to collect the readings from meters physically.

The old method of collecting every reading by writing in on paper was not effective neither do the new method of taking pictures of reading and then uploading it to the server.

So what we are offering is a totally smart electricity meter with wifi technology and a reading of full town will be finished in minutes.

Project Objectives

Main objective of our project is to minimize the man power required to collect data from electricity meters because it is time consuming and expensive because of the man power.

Our meter will not only save the reading of the user consumption but also let user look at the reading and history of their usage online giving transparency to the user.

Project Implementation Method

Our meter will come in 2 modes, Prepaid mode and Postpaid mode.

With prepaid mode you have to buy electricity from the company and recharge the meter and the meter will stop giving electricity once the recharged amount is over.

With postpaid mode, user will be able to use the electricity for a whole month and the month reading will be sent back to the server and they receive the bill.

There are two modes of data receiving that we are planning to implement in our meter,

First one is, to connect meter with nearby wifi and the meter will give reading back to the server.

Second one is, to make a wifi receiver vehicle which will go to the town or village where smart meters are implemented and by just driving in streets it will get reading of every meter.

Benefits of the Project

A lot of man power will be not needed anymore and the time required to collect data from meters will become less.

Users will have more information on their usage helping them to take decisions more easily.

Users will have more options to choose whether they want to buy an prepaid electricity or the post paid one.

Company will save alot of money with cutting down the man power.

Company will have option to stop the electricty consumption of any defaulter without cutting their meter with just one click from their backend server.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our project will use Atmega2560 microcontroller,

Wifi module,

Comparator circuit for voltage sensing,

Ampere circuit for current sensing,

An EEPROM chip to save the data,

A relay module to stop the consumption of user if necessary.

High current PCBs will be designed to make meter effective.

Meter will be made waterproof by the usage of sillicon.
