Today the most common problem that a bikers have to face is the petrol quantity in the bike tank. During the ride very often the fuel tank becomes empty suddenly somewhere between the trip, so the biker has to walk with bike in search of petrol pump. To overcome these problems our team decided to develop a smart digital meter for bikes. The project presents the use of modern electronics to build a system that can provide the solutions of the problems that a biker faces during the ride. Our project includes the following as a digital display on a screen of bike speedometer. (1) Fuel level, (2) time, (3) speed, (4) remaining kilometers, (5) gear state, and (6) travelled distance Another thing which is very important for a bike is a safety, so for this purpose our team also includes a antitheft security system of bike in a speedometer. Through this, only selected people can access control on the vehicle. Related to the bike problems our team also decided to build a system that limit bike speed at different speed levels. The reason behind including this in our project is to have a better comfortable transport. Bikers who make the long travels on the highways or long routes would surely find these as a boon. It helps the riders to maintain on the same speed and have a comfortable and safe journey.
Project Objectives- To design and develop a digital speedometer
- To measure fuel in liters in running condition, when bike is in inclined position (try to achieve the most possible accurate value)
- To implement anti-theft security system.
- To design and develop a cruise control system.
DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER
First start with the fuel measurement. The fuel measurement can be done with sensors in a bike tank that are calibrated and programmed in such a way that we get an accurate or nearly accurate quantity of fuel present in a tank even if the bike is in running condition. Now comes on other features like speed, gear state, and clock. Speed can be measure through speed sensor, gear state value can be achieved through magnetic gear sensor and a clock is generated through a controller which shows time. All the sensors are programmed to input their values in a controller and then through controller we programmed it to show the display on meter screen.
ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
Now either a fingerprint scanner or an rfid card will be used in the antitheft system. The system is set up so that one of these security devices is attached to a meter and takes input from the user before going into the controller. The controller's output is integrated with relays that are integrated with ignition wirings. The controller gives the nc command to relay to ignition the bike when the condition is true. It will be further more clear in a block diagram.
CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM
The circuitry and mechanism of a cruise control will be attached near the accelerator to execute lock and unlock actions of accelerator, and relays will be connected to both brakes on a bike. The mechanism functions in such a way when the push buttons is pressed, the accelerator locks at a predetermined speed and unlocks when the other push button is pressed and when any of the breaks is applied. The mechanism and circuitry will on by on/off switch.
Benefits of the ProjectThis project is beneficial for common people who use motorbikes for travelling. It can be a commercial project as well and can be used by motorbikes manufacturing industries. The project indicates the fuel in liters and also enable the users to have an estimate of fuel level in running condition (to the most accurate level that can be achieved after experiments or at the end of project), makes the motorbike safe due to the option of anti-theft security system and the cruise control system makes the long journeys easier and less tiring.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableSpeed and Trip:
The purpose of speed and trip is to show the speed of your vehicle in km/h , miles/h or in both.With the help of speed , trip is achieved. For speed we use magnetic hall effect sensor that works in a manner that when a magnet comes infront, it gives a high pulse, the sensor sends the signal to arduino digital pin and hence the speed and trip is displayed with the help of some calculations on the lcd.
Gear State:
A motorcycle gear indicator is an indicator that automatically indicates which gear you are riding in at a given time and solves the problem of drawing attention to the motorcycle gear position. A gear indicator works by making a direct connection with the motorcycle’s wiring and uses the signal to determine the current gear position.
In this system, gear indicator sensor for 70cc bike is interfaced with lcd display and arduino and the gear state is displayed on the lcd accordingly.
Clock:
A clock is introduced in our project to let the user know that what time is going at the present when riding a motor bike. It will also help reduce accidents because the user does not have to continuously see the time in the mobile phone or in the hand watch. In this system clock is interfaced with lcd display, arduino and a RTC module. The time and date can be reset with the help of two push buttons
Anti-theft system:
We have build an Anti-Theft System to avoid bike robberies and only a person who has the fingerprint enrolled will be able to unlock the bike ignition system. To build an anti-theft system we have used arduino, lcd display , Finger Print Sensor and a relay. The system works in a way that when the enrolled fingerprint is placed, the fingerprint sensor sends signal to arduino and makes the relay switch that turns the ignition on/off.
Cruise control system
Cruise control system is a quite famous and successful technological advancement in the field of motored vehicles especially cars. It allows the user to let the vehicle control the speed. It could maintain in a particular speed relieving the driver from his/her burden. The system is based on electromechanical circuitry. It consist of a dc gear motor controlled by push buttons with the help of relays that makes the motor rod move forward and backward to lock the speed with the help of metallic round part having different points for different speed option placed on the accelerator.
Fuel measurement system
In this task our goal is to achieve best possible accurate fuel level measurement in run time for this purpose level sensors are used inside fuel tank, which best fits the need. The challenge is to fit the sensors according to the structure of tank and calibrate the sensors so that the exact measurement of fuel is achieved and remaining kilometers are also displayed on meter according to fuel level.
