Project Summary

Railway level crossing is considered to be one of the most dangerous points in rail networks. In recent research, it is indicated that the risk of accidents due to railway level crossing is increasing. The need for an automatic system arose due to poor management and responsibility of the railway system. Communications are really challenging due to the adverse transmission conditions and the lack of a pre-provided infrastructure for supporting long range connectivity with land. Communications in high seas are usually covered by satellite links that are expensive and lead to high power consumption by the terminals. However, in areas closer to the shore, other communication options have been adopted for different kinds of services such as boat tracking and telemetry, data collection from moored monitoring systems, etc. The advantages of the latest generation of broadband communication systems (e.g., LTE, 5G) and the emergence of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for the railway environment are also explained together with the strategic roadmap to ensure a smooth migration from GPS Furthermore, this survey focuses on providing a holistic approach, identifying scenarios and architectures where railways could leverage better commercial IoT capabilities. After reviewing the main industrial developments, short and medium-term IoT-enabled services for smart railways are evaluated. Railway track system monitoring By camera from sub-station & Any fault in the track so that is generate an alarm in sub- station.

Improving passenger experience and predicting operational issues in vehicles with sensors are major goals for transportation operators. New technology in the low power wireless domain can help. Railways are a vast network of railways lines and there are many level crossings across the network some of which are unmanned. Those unmanned crossings can pose a threat to safety and hence a solution is needed to control the gates using reliable and economical means. This paper addresses the solution by using LoRa based IOT framework to control unmanned level crossing gates.

 All this operation makes the railway level crossing automatic without human invention.

Project Implementation Method

The railway industry is expected to rely upon smart transportation systems that leverage technologies over a large rail network infrastructure to reduce its life-cycle cost. New services, such as integrated security, asset management, and predictive maintenance, are expected to improve timely decision-making for issues like safety, scheduling, and system capacity. Smart railways represent a combination of interconnected technological solutions and components, as well as modern transportation infrastructure like automatic ticketing systems, digital displays, and smart system.

Benefits of the Project

  4. This technology is best & less cost because it is track the location and monitoring and controlling through LoRa system.
  5. That is good and better controlling and monitoring system all things are control by substation in real time.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The hardware is such that it can be configured into any digital circuit and is reprogrammable and can be operated at high clock frequencies upto 100MHz.
