Career-related confusions are a serious issue among students these days. A student needs an accessible, easy-to-relate-to and trustworthy career planning resource at their disposal. Mostly at age of 18, students are not mature enough to know precisely what career to follow; they are not sufficiently aware of what goes on in a particular area and which academic majors are associated with their areas of interests. We intend to make a web-based career guidance expert system which mimics a one-to-one meeting with a professional career counselor and supports people in developing their own career opting competences. The system generates a counselling report after assessing a student’s personal information, areas of interest, subject, grades, IQ, and etc.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

Smart career counseling would involves data management agent, knowledge management agent, reasoning agent and interface agent. A brief description is given below:

Data Management Agent: It will deal with the data provided to the system. Data preprocessing, storage, and extraction are the basic functions of this agent.

Knowledge Management Agent: It will include career planning knowledge and expertise, blocks of knowledge, basic facts, rules and other relevant information collected by knowledge engineer from a professional career guide.

Inference Agent: The inference engine is the brain of the expert system. Inference engine will contain rules to evaluate the best possible career choice based on the data from the user interface and existing knowledge base. It will use case-based reasoning in order to have exemplified capability based on an archive of past cases.

Interface Agent: This is a web-based interface to help students connect with the system. The students will be able to provide their personal details, submit their academic records through this interface. The students will also be evaluated using a MCQs based test which would yield their IQ, personality traits, and their general interests. The conclusions derived from the inference agent will be also be displayed here.

Benefits of the Project

The proposed system would facilitate college students to choose a best suited academic and working career according to their grades, underlying interests and personality traits by predicting their success rates in various fields.
