Project Summary

Pakistan is an agrarian nation and few unsolved problems farmers face here are proper knowledge about soil and region fertility, availability of water sources, proper detection of soil regarding crop fertilization and cash crop production, so considering that problem we will create a software-hardware combined system that will include a cross platform application to be created on “Flutter” by using “Dart Programming Language” and that’ll have solution to the mentioned problem by using APIs and other backend techniques. On the other hand, it also includes a hardware system that’ll be used for the detection of humidity, moisture of soil and pH level of soil which are key features. By using Arduino, microcontroller and different moisture, humidity and ph level detecting sensors, the mentioned characteristics in the soil will be detected and then on the basis of the results we will conclude further information about the soil. So our project will involve software-hardware integration which includes cross platform application and hardware system that’ll provide information regarding soil geographical aspects, topographical impacts, information regarding available water sources, cash crop knowledge, humidity, moisture & pH level detection of soil.

Project Objectives

Smart agriculture and Soil Detection Technique will include.

  • Detection of Soil via digital Image processing features using Python/MATLAB.
  • Development of a cross platform application using Flutter and Dart programming language having integrated details.
  • The cross platform application will provide information regarding availability of water sources and canal system of Pakistan, soil location detection using map APIs features, fertility of suitable crops and Information regarding cash crop production using databases.
  • Information regarding geographical aspects and topographical impacts will also be provided using databases.
  • Detection of ph level using Hardware sensors and kit.
  • Detection of soil moisture and humidity.

Project Implementation Method

Smart Agriculture and Soil Detection technique will be implemented with the development of cross platform application in its software part and development of Arduino, Microcontroller and various sensor based hardware kit, detection of soil will be implemented using various Digital Image Processing Algorithms like Kernel Means Clustering Algorithms and others with the help of Python/MATLAB those algorithms will be provided in the cross platform application. The cross platform application will use the camera features of smart phone to investigate the characteristics of soil, also application will use databases to illustrate details of Water sources and Canal System maps. Data sets will be used that will provide information regarding all possible crops that can be irrigated in specific region of country using map APIs and GPS features those data sets will work as backend in application. Also the cross platform application with the help of databases will provide information regarding geographical aspects like plains, plateau, deserts and mountainous regions of the country and topographical climate impacts that may affect the crops. On the other hand, hardware system portion of the project consists of Arduino Uno Microcontroller, and different sensors that are used for detecting humidity, moisture and pH level of soil, use of frequency sensors will the ease the further hardware work of the project.

Benefits of the Project

The Smart agriculture and soil detection technique will be beneficial for not only a farmer and a landlord having end user facility but also any person having agriculture interest may avail the services and features of the application and hardware kit, in order to obtain knowledge regarding whether the soil will be irrigated or not, what possible regions are having fertility characteristics around user, any common man, students or agriculture specialists would avail the  provision of information regarding water sources and canal system close to livelihood. Also the illustration of geographical aspects and topographical, seasonal and climate impacts will enhance the knowledge of common user. Detection of soil characteristics to end user will be the most beneficial, by using that feature one will investigate the fertility features of his/her soil providing feature a picture of soil and detecting all possible fertility characteristics of that soil. Based on the datasets and databases feature of seasonal cash crops will provided in application that aware any farmer and landlord of which crop to sow in suitable season that will result a cash crop. On the other hand by using hardware kit one will be provided information regarding soil characteristics like humidity and moisture detection of soil feature by availing that feature one will know exactly how much required water will be needed to soil, by availing pH level detection feature one will know the chemical needs of soil. Therefore the project will be quite beneficial offering various features of software-hardware integration.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will be the software-hardware integration, where the cross platform application will provide the technical details. Application will use the camera feature in order to investigate the type of soil and its characteristics that information will be provided by the end user, application will process the Digital Image Processing algorithms in backend, application will have other features as well like location detection which will use the map APIs, details regarding geographical aspects, topographical and climate impacts, water sources and cash crops features will also be provided with the help of datasets and databases . On the other hand, hardware features of the system will involve the combination of Arduino Uno Microcontroller Board, Connecting wires and different Humidity, Moisture and pH level sensors. The research work is also covered and work on the development of application has been started whereas requirement of hardware material is needed for starting work on hardware part.
