Our project “Professional Social Network” will be the network for the researchers and the publishers. It will collect data like research papers and other useful information about the authors and coauthors and will develop a relation-based network which will be helpful for other researchers doing research on similar topics. It will also recommend the appropriate research papers to others working in the relevant field. Data will be collected by datamining and dynamic data crawling techniques by determining page layout by the system. Then data analysis will be applied to the data. Social network analysis
algorithms will be then applied to the useful dataset. Some of the social network analysis
algorithms include centrality, betweenness, degree, closeness and clustering. At last data will be visualized in interactive form. It will help in collecting data about researchers and visualize them. Then we’ll be able to apply filters on them. For example, there are less chances that researchers of some specific are will be given priority by the search engine because that only searches universally but our system will have advantage to point out researchers from specific area like from Pakistan.
The purpose of this application is to help PhD researchers though it can also be very helpful to others who just want to be aware of what types of progress are made by whom researches on different corners of the world. It will display interactive visualization by pop up responses of each node with little information and also through filtration and recommendation process based on user search and interests. This will help them by providing a 3D interactive graph like structure which will help them to analyze others and compare them with others to get the idea where they stand among others. One can get to know or judge how much progress people of a country make in different fields.
There is a great need for the PhD researcher doing research on some specific topic to analyze others researches. There are some systems which can provide that facility, but the main problem is that they don’t provide visualized form and most of them don’t even provide a meaningful information about research papers, authors and coauthors. By defining a good relation, someone will be able have a good knowledge about a research paper because of the individual researchers efficiency given by SNA(Social Network Analysis) algorithms. Another problem is that if someone has to find research papers of some specific area then almost no one provides this facility.
To achieve this kind of system, we’ll have to gather the data first which we’ll do through crawling. Crawling will be started from user provided URL and then important information will be scrapped. Search based this system will also be part of our system for the common user such that if someone
using our system wants to see some publisher who is not in there by default then he can do this by providing the URL of his/her organization. Useful data will be extracted by analyzing data for further implementation of SNA techniques.
Social network analysis techniques and algorithms will be applied after the data is gathered. Relation based properties will be determined so that a graph can be made. Without this graph someone cannot easily judge a connection between authors and coauthors. Our representation will be helpful as well as interactive with the user. Furthermore, if the user is the part of our system as he has proper registration and he has provided his work history and present information and interests then our system will be able to recommend him/her other’s work on the similar field. This recommendation will be done using artificial intelligence. There will also be filtration process which will help in a sense if someone is interested
to get results based on area or language. User will also be able to connect to others with the forum system on our web application. This system is useful if user needs help in understanding of some topic. Users will be rated to restrict
the users from violating privacy and personal rights of anyone or misleading. Rating system can help others to not get detracted by misleading information and user can get the best response for what they are looking for.
The goal of this project is to basically help the PhD researchers to increase their knowledge as someone may have worked on that topic before. It will also help to separate them on the basis of region. Our system will help them by defining a relational graph between the researchers which
will also be visualized so that will be great help for them. Further, we will apply different filtering
and centrality algorithms to further elaborate and pinpoint the need of the searcher.
Similar systems have been happened before but with not the idea of the graphical representation. We’ll implement this idea and it will be of great help. To help further we’ll implement recommender system which will recommend based on the interests of the user.
Our project will mainly focus on three things. Our system will dynamically crawl the data of different scholars from their respective university websites and their publication information from digital repositories like dblp and google scholar. Then it’ll apply different centrality approaches on every entity. We will do social network analysis by finding interesting patterns in the gathered data. By doing this we’ll develop relational base graph to represent all the entities, so our system will provide possible relations. The system will present the network by dynamic visualization with
user interactive and understandable interface. Furthermore, there can be a good recommendation with the help of this system. Recommendations will be done using collaborative filtering approaches.
We will also place an option to filter in a specific area or field so that if a searcher wants to find only Pakistan’s searcher then it would be easy for him, so again it will solve this type of problem if someone has to work in the limit of some region. Anyone will be able to find the Authors and Co-Authors of research paper of their relevant field easily. Users will also be able to communicate through a forum. The main point is that will greatly minimize the effort of someone to do a research by placing all in one system.
