Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary•The main idea of the project is to detect and identify certain types of pests and also identify different levels of infestation, through a mobile application using cell phone’s camera.
•A system capable of detecting five pests which are Aphids, Spider mites, whiteflies, fungus gnats and thrips. After identifying the system can tell the infestation level by a certain pests on crops.
•After identifying the level, the application must be able to tell the type of pesticide and amount required for that infestation level for a certain type of pest.
Project Objectives•To develop an application that must be able to detect different types of pests using a mobile phone camera through a phone application.
• To develop an application that must be able to identify different types of pests i.e. Aphids, Whiteflies, spider mites etc.
• After identifying the level, the application must be able to tell the type of pesticide and amount of pesticide required for a certain type of pest.
• The application must be is able to shift between Urdu and English Language.
Project Implementation MethodThe Methodology we are going to follow to develop our system is based on the Software Development Life cycle which consist of the following stages.
- gathering dataset:
First we have to enlist down and gather the information about all the item that are require to develop the system and firdt step is to gather dataset for the pest.
- Analysis:
In this phase we have to search the market. We have to choose specific sensors and components after considering a number of factors:
Reliability, Accuracy, Cost, Linux/Python support
- Design:
Design is the important part of any system developed because it attracts the user to use it or not. if design is user-friendly then user will must try to interact with it if it is not user-friendly user will be frustrated We will be keeping in mind all the techniques used for designing the user interface and try to increase the usability so that user interaction increase.
- Development:
Using a flawless system is impossible as it can’t be developed team will try its level best to provide a flawless, secure and fast system to the user by using the tools discussed in the Tools/Technology. We will be developing the prototypes of the system and then will be coding the whole system.
- Testing:
Testing techniques will be applied to the developed system like functionality testing, performance testing, acceptance testing and merging hardware and software testing.
- Deployment:
The last phase is launching our product in the market.
Benefits of the Project•Detection of pests in the paddy fields is a major challenge in the field of agriculture, therefore effective measures should be developed to fight the infestation while minimizing the use of pesticides.
•The techniques of image analysis are extensively applied to agricultural science, and it provides maximum protection to crops, which can ultimately lead to better crop management and production.
•Detection and identification of pest’s infestation relies on manpower, however automatic monitoring has been advancing in order to minimize human efforts and errors.
•Results shows that proposed system provides an efficient, simple and fast solution for pest management in crops
