Summary of Road Safety for kids based on Virtual Reality Interaction Physical Space :

          Kids experience 4 times more road injuries then adults because of less road safety awareness. Training is hard to provide in the real world due to safety reasons and dependence on environmental conditions. One promising alternative is to employ motion sensing technologies and conduct training in a safe and controllable virtual environment. “Road Safety for Kids based on Virtual Reality Interaction Physical Space” is a road safety project. The aim of this project is to develop an interactive virtual environment for kids to get hands on experience about road safety, without exposing them to the real environment. In this project Gestures are captured from Kinect device and are projected on 3 screens. Screens will be in perfect synchronization to produce an immersive experience. High end 3D projection screens will be connected in a physical space through Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition external multi-display adapter in front of kid. Once the input is captured through kinect sensor, the content will be changed and adjusted accordingly. The Matrox TripleHead2Go adds up to three monitors to our laptop or desktop computer. Children are trained in this virtual simulator to increase their road awareness in real life.

Project Objectives

Project Objectives:

  • To develop a road safety training system to educated school children without exposing them to any hazardous or dangerous environment.
  • To educate those children whose cognitive skills are not mature yet and cannot comprehend complex tasks such as road crossing etc.
  • To develop a cost-effective solution with in the proposed budget that can be reused without any further cost or effort.
  • The Project also hold the potential to serve as a platform for tourists to explore a certain location without actually being exposed to it like a volcano etc.

Project Implementation Method

Project Implementation Method

  • City simulation is developed using Unity 3D, Blender and Maya software
  • Humanoid characters are developed using adobe fuse and animated through mixamo.
  • Different human gestures like walking and running etc. are detected using Microsoft Kinect.
  • These gestures are taken into Unity as input and avatar acts accordingly
  • Complete traffic system is created with lighting system and points subsystem.
  • Three screens are used combined by triplehead2go device to create a room setup simulator.
