Project Summary

In any refrigeration system, the evaporator plays a key role in the whole cycle. The purpose of the evaporator is to extract heat from the refrigerator cabin. At the inlet of the evaporator, the cold refrigerant in liquid form enters. While passing through tubes it absorbs heat from surrounding and changes its phase to vapor thus creating a cooling effect. The design of the cooling fins in the evaporator plays a key role in cooling. The purpose of this project is to analyse the different configurations of evaporator design for an existing refrigerator and by the means of simulation and analyses optimize it further.

Project Objectives

  • Understanding the concepts, working and function of the refrigeration process in detail.
  • To have a handful of experience on suitable software for analysis and simulation of different evaporator configurations.
  • To design an optimized system of evaporator design to get better and enhanced results after implementing the refrigeration concepts.

Project Implementation Method

Applying Techniques of the Heat Transfer method.

Performing Analytical calculation of the designed system.

Ansys model design and development.

CFD analysis of the optimized model with detailed study of Phase Change Materials working phenomena.

Benefits of the Project

The research, analysis and experimentation on refrigerator evaporator system will help in designing and manufacturing of an evaporator design of high energy rating and energy sufficient final optimized design shall be presented which will directly benefit the sectors orienting the refrigeration cycles and research work is done will help in the further developments in this field for future researchers. Moreover problem of ice deposition shall be considered during the design and analysis portion which in turn will increase the efficiency of the evaporator.
