The Automotive Industry is one of the most up-to-date applications nowadays. With the rapid development of vehicles, the rate of vehicle theft is also steadily rising. Vehicle theft has become a universal problem. The type of theft varies greatly from country to country, ranging from unorganized theft for profit on the resale market to well-organized criminal groups stealing on demand for the export market. Theft prevention for vehicles is crucial as thievery techniques are getting stronger. There have been numerous efforts to develop car security systems. The solution to this problem is a real-time vehicle security system based on computer vision. In which the main system features will be real time face detection and recognition, unlocking the vehicle and alarming the owner through an SMS/MMS to provide a secure system. It will consist cameras and sensors that will enable the system to identify the authorized owner and will unlock the vehicle accordingly using image processing and machine learning further it will track and monitor the vehicle using a GPS module. So, the main objective of this project is providing an affordable, effective and efficient security system for vehicles to minimize vehicle’s robbery.

Project Objectives

In Real time vehicle security system, the objective is to prevent the theft of vehicle and ensure safety of vehicle by avoiding the means of theft. The motivation behind its development is to reduce the vehicle theft ratio and the high rate of vehicle larceny in Pakistan. In recent years, computer vision has played a significant role in biometric identification and user/face recognition. Face Recognition based security systems are considered to be the most secure especially due to their ability to identify people with minimal ambiguity. Our project is to build facial recognition for Vehicle Security System using microprocessor raspberry pi. The raspberry pi will act as a command module for the proposed system. The security system only allows authorized personnel to use and unlock the vehicle accordingly.

This project is to provide a real time security system that uses face recognition to identify the authorized users of the vehicle. This system has a camera placed inside the vehicle. The camera takes picture of the person who is standing near the vehicle. The acquired image is then compared with the predefined image(s) in the database. If the image matches, then the vehicle is unlocked else it remains locked.

This project is limited to the basic operations/functionalities of a security system which includes clicking images for authorization, adding user profiles, and deleting user profiles.

Project Implementation Method

The real time extendable emergency system with microcomputer comprises image processing control unit and microprocessor to prevent the parked vehicle from theft. Face detection and recognition system use enhanced algorithm for authentication.

We will implement this system with a 3d camera installed inside the vehicle for real time face detection and recognition. The camera takes picture of the person who is standing near the vehicle. The acquired image is then compared with the predefined image(s) in the database. If the image matches, then the vehicle is unlocked else it remains locked. The design of our system contains a pi camera inside the vehicle that will specifically detect and recognize the authorized person/owner. So, we have used python for image processing using OpenCv2, Face recognition and raspberry pi as a hardware module, where sensors will be attached to the system along with relays and motors to unlock the vehicle and alert the owner about the unlocking/locking attempts accordingly. If a person is wearing a mask and trying to unlock would make it harder to recognize & unlock the vehicle.

Further showing the picture of the owner in the camera for unlocking of the vehicle. so, these two problems limit us to an extent along with breaking the window / door of the vehicle.

Although there will be no as such memory or CPU requirements limitations in our system.

Implementation constraints will certainly enhance our system that vehicle won’t unlock if a person is wearing a mask and same for if a picture of the owner is shown to the camera because it will not detect in 3d and we will be implementing our system with a 3d camera so 2d pictures won’t be successful for unlocking a vehicle.

Benefits of the Project

The system will be able to detect the owner quickly.

The system provides unlocking based on facial recognition in real time.

The system provides keyless unlocking system.

This system will help to reduce the theft ratio.

This system can be used for other security systems like Door Lock systems, Garage Door, Drawers & shelfs locking etc.

The motivation behind its development is to reduce the vehicle theft ratio and the high rate of vehicle larceny in Pakistan Respectively.

Some advantages of facial recognition method for vehicle security application are

1. More convenient, sensed as soon as one is seated in position.

2. Low cost and a better approach to be used with existing methods.

3. Requires no active part of the user.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

"Real-time Vehicle Security System" aims to provide a security system for vehicles. Biometric authentication plays an important role to provide high security. Our project is to build a facial recognition for Vehicle Security System using Raspberry Pi. In our system, when a person approaches the vehicle’s door, the system detects the person’s face and, if it is registered, the door is unlocked; if the face is not registered, an alert is raised, and a picture is taken and sent to the registered number. In the face recognition process, a given face is compared to the faces stored in the database in order to identify the individual. The goal is to locate the most similar face in the database to the one given.

Our vehicles require vital security. In a Raspberry Pi system, it uses an image capture approach. The Raspberry Pi (RPi) is in charge of controlling and capturing the video camera, unlocking the vehicle’s door, and, turning on a relay. The GSM module sends an SMS to the owner informing them that an unknown person is attempting to gain access. The Raspberry Pi serves as the system's main control circuit. Python and the OpenCV Library are used for coding.
