Real Time Tracking using LPWAN Technology (LoRaWAN)
Project Area of Specialization Information & Communication TechnologyProject SummaryIn this project, a brief study of all present solution along with their current status and technical comparison considering our use case which is Real-time tracking using LPWAN technologies specifically LoRaWAN will be conducted.
Conventional way of real time tracking required expensive global positioning systems (GPS) or un-interrupted cellular coverage which can be quite a challenge. Also, tracking devices required frequent change of batteries and start malfunctioning due to fast consumption.
Analyzing the LPWAN functionality, Real-time tracking become suitable application for it. Most appreciated aspect provided by LPWAN is cost of infrastructure as compared to GPS and Cellular and device long life.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of our project is to make the Real Time Tracking technology more power efficienct, precise and cheaper so that it can easily be used in our daily life in transportation, children tracking etc.
Project Implementation Method1st step: Detailed study about LPWAN technology its available problems and solution with the comparison of different technologies.
2nd step: Selection of required modules in this we are using raspberry pi and loRa shields from which we will make raspberry pi based gateway using LoRa evaluation board.
3rd step: Research and implementation of LoRaWAN gateway in which we will modify the available open source forum for loRa gateway as per our requirements such as considering frequency change and other parameters and than building time tracking application on evaluation board.
4rth step: Validation through real time tracking and result analysis this includes a walk test in which we will set up the project at different places inside campus that involves gateway and computers and will validate the result though a field test and record the results.
5th step: Analyzing results and concluding the research with future work progress.
Benefits of the Project Children Tracking- The number of child abduction cases in Pakistan is increasing day by day, this has given concern to parents in leaving their children outside the home. Therefore, a device that can detect the presence of children when outside the home is needed.
- Since GPS devices cannot be used due to availibility of WIFI everytime with less distance and more power.
- The children location monitoring and tracking system can be built using LPWAN concept that use LoRa module as data location transmission medium. And the system which is built do not need the internet connection.
- The build system with appropriate equipments use can show the real time location coordinate point with a maximum data transmission limit of 6 KM for Line Of Sight (LOS) and for N(LOS) is 4km approximately.
- The child can carry the transmitter (end-device)in the form of KEY CHAIN, or a WATCH.
- The gateway can be located at different places like home or playing ground because of having Long range a single Gateway can cover a large area.
- It can also use in public transport tracking e.g. greenline by placing multiple gateways at stops. And the end-device would be installed in the vehicle.
- The presented solution will be tested in 1Km range with one gateway and one end device.
- The major focus of this Project is around LPWAN and presenting Real-time tracking using Wireless technology LoRaWAN.
-
The main circuit includes Raspberry Pi which is low cost and has huge processing power . Also using LoRa shield IC880A for building gateway.
-
Maximum output power: 0.025 Watt
-
Working frequency approx 923MHz
