Project Title

Raspberry Pi Powered IOT Garden

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

This project is to be able to maintain the well-being of a garden using the power of the Internet of
Things (IOT). With the versatility of the present tools and software, our planter is integrated with
sensors that monitor the real-time status of the plants. We built a smartphone app that let's one
access the data and take needed actions if necessary.
The IOT system functions through the following processes. A Raspberry Pi is used to relay useful
information of the garden, such as luminosity, humidity and the moisture content in the soil from
various sensors into a cloud database. Once the information is in the cloud, it can be accessed from
anywhere using a smartphone app that we built. This process is reversible to , the user can send
instructions, such as the state of the water pump, back to the garden which will execute the required
commands.
We use cloud database android app to control all issue we also use manually watering through
android app.

Project Objectives

One of the primary objectives of this project was to be able to maintain the well-being
of a garden using the power of the Internet of Things (IOT)
The versatility of the present tools and software, our planter is integrated with sensors
that monitor the real-time status of the plants. We built a smartphone app that let's one
access the data and take needed actions if necessary.
This process is reversible too the user can send instructions, such as the state of the
water pump, back to the garden which will execute the required commands.

Project Implementation Method

Soil Moisture Sensor
? Temperature and humidity Sensor (DHT11 sensor)
? We use ultralow-cost digital temperature and humidity sensor. It uses a
capacitive humidity sensor and a thermistor to measure the surrounding air, and spits
out a digital signal on the data pin (no analog input pins needed). Its fairly simple to
use, but requires careful timing to grab data.
? Relay module
A power relay module is an electrical switch that is operated by an electromagnet. ... When
the relay is de-energized, the sets of contacts that were closed, open and breaks the
connection and vice versa if the contacts were open.
? Water pump
I. The device that raises, transfers, delivers, or compresses fluids or that attenuates gases
especially by suction or pressure or both.
II. Heart.
III. An act or the process of pumping.
IV. An energy source (such as light) for pumping atoms or molecules

? Light intensity sensor (LDR module)

LDR sensor module is used to detect the intensity of light. It is associated with both analog output
pin and digital output pin labelled as AO and DO respectively on the board. When there is light,
the resistance of LDR will become low according to the intensity of light. The greater the intensity
of light, the lower the resistance of LDR. The sensor has a potentiometer knob that can be adjusted
to change the sensitivity of LDR towards light.

Benefits of the Project

IOT garden proves to have a huge scope as it provides a unique opportunity for businesses to
turn data into insights. There are a number of contributing factors as well that drive the
adoption of A.I in agriculture field, such as improved sensors, device connections, the
evolution of lifestyle and mobility these technologies are new gardening assistants making it
easier for us to partner with nature
