Project Title

PV array reconfiguration during partial shading

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

The proposed approach is inspired by the Electrical Array Reconfiguration (EAR) applied to autonomous PV systems such as cars powered by solar energy and electric engines coupled to water pumps.

The proposed ideas are based on the strategy that the maximum power point voltage has a small

variation within a wide range of the irradiance on a PV module, and on the other hand, that the MPP current of a PV module can be considered nearly proportional to the irradiance value.

Thus to detect partial shading we will be using current as a tool by measuring the current through each panel using a current sensor ACS712 and then the data will be fed to a computer in the visual studio software which will give us the solar irradiance for each of the panel.

Then ‘sum subset problem’ algorithm will be used for the array reconfiguration according to which switching will be done.

The algorithm used here is “Sum Subset problem" which is based on dynamic programming.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

PV array interfacing + Selection of sensors + Algorithm coding + Interfacing the sensors + Interface circuit of microcontroller.

Benefits of the Project

Our project will be able to extract the maximum power during partial shading. Current sensors are connected with each panel the measured current is then fed to the pc and the solar irradiance is calculated and displayed. Then it is determined which panel is shaded after which the algorithm is applied and the switching   is done and the array is reconfigured
