Provisioning Privacy for TIP attributes in Trusted Third Party (TTP) Location Based Services (LBS) Systems

Location Based Services (LBS) is a system which is being used in smart devices very frequently. Privacy of mobile user is a vital challenge for LBS system in smart devices. This research will address the privacy issue in LBS systems.

Project Summary

Location Based Services (LBS) is a system which is being used in smart devices very frequently. Privacy of mobile user is a vital challenge for LBS system in smart devices. This research will address the privacy issue in LBS systems. 

Project Objectives

The primary objective of this research is to address the privacy issues in location based services systems. The following objectives have been set out to accomplish the research goals.

  1. To propose a new privacy approach for Trusted Third Party (TTP) Location Based Services (LBS) Systems.
  2. Protecting privacy for TIP attributes in TTP LBS Systems.
  • Protecting TimeThe objective is to hide the time information when user making query to LBS system.
  • Protecting IdentityThe goal is to ensure privacy to hide the user’s identity.  The identity of a user can be his/her name, a unique identi?er, or any set of properties uniquely identifying the user.
  • Protecting Position: The goal is to protect position of a user which he/she has send to LBS System.

Project Implementation Method

We have implemented the proposed solution in real france_highway road networks using Riverbed modeler academic edition 17.5 simulation tool and measured different privacy factors including Ethernet delay, Query success rate, system performance (load and query processing time), route API retransmission and data access rate. It was observe that, our proposed solution outperformed the existing state-of-the-art models and achieved 80% privacy by improving the rate up to 30%. However, this significant improvement provided a complete protection in all metrics.

  • This research will preserve privacy for highlighted attributes Time,Identity and Position (TIP).
  • Preserve the LBS user personal information from disclosure.
  • Provide a fully private environment to LBS user.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final Deliverable of the Research & Development (R&D) based project is in the form of research papers, publication in any ISI journal. Moreover, the results generated by perfoming simulation are also final deliverables of our FYP
