Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryIn this project, plants disease especially fruits diseases are focused and performed detection and recognition using "Deep Convolutional Neural Network and Explainable AI". The main purpose of this project is to detect the diseases at the early stage to increase the quality and quantity of fruits and vegetables such as citrus, peach, apple, potato, tomato, and cucumber.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of this project are:
i) Detect and recognize the plant diseases at the early stage using deep learning and explainable AI with maximum accuracy and minimum time;
ii) Design an desktop application for the expert persons as a second opinion.
Project Implementation MethodThe first stage is research and understanding. In this stage we will be finding all the work done by other researcher and scientist in the related area, study them and work out on the best, most accurate and most efficient model and tools to be used in our project. This stage also involves collecting all the necessary tools (i.e hardware / software) and dataset required for training and testing of the program.
The second stage is the digital image processing stage. In this stage we will work on the images and extract all the required information for it to be used in the program. There are number of processes that take place when it comes to processing the images.
The last stage is the machine learning stage. This is where we will apply the DCCN models on the processed images to identify the disease of certain plant. The date set will be divided into two parts, one will be used for training and other is used for testing.
Benefits of the ProjectAgriculture is the backbone of Pakistan Pakistan's agriculture sector plays a central role in the economy as it contributes 18.9 percent to GDP and absorbs 42.3 percent of labor force. Out of the total area of 79.6 million hectares, 22.1 million hectares is used for agriculture. Pakistan being an agricultural country, the fine growth of fruits and vegetables is essential. These plants are grown in an abundant quantity, while some of them grow to have diseases who are mostly viral which makes them produce in less quantity and not useable. This causes decrease in the total production of the farms, which inter effect the economy of Pakistan. It is also an important source of foreign exchange earnings and stimulates growth in other sectors.
