Packet Based L band transciever
Project Area of Specialization Information & Communication TechnologyProject SummarySatellite communication has proven to be a very crucial and important element in today’s battlefield. Modern communication systems are one of the major deciding factors of any operation: tactical or strategic. Satellite communication provides beyond line of sight communication capability which is not only a force multiplier but a necessity in today’s information-rich battlefield. It yields tactical data link between multi-generation aircrafts and multi-platform defense assets e.g. soldiers, tanks, AEW systems, and Aircrafts, etc. SATCOM is also the gateway to enter and conquer space, the final frontier. Satellite communications provide services in situations where optical fiber, mobile telephony, and other terrestrial facilities are impractical: remote islands, offshore areas, and stricken regions where people have been forced to temporarily flee in the face of earthquakes and other natural disasters. Confidentiality and secrecy are the first and most important traits of any secure system. The commercially available SATCOM modems lack these traits. A lab prototype design of SATCOM based on SDR implementation using USRP and LabVIEW as developing platforms is proposed while implementing frequency shift keying.
