Project Summary

Power quality is the ability of electrical equipment to interact with electrical supply. Power quality problems are increased continuously and received a great attention due to impact on both utilities and consumer.

Harmonic is one of the problem in power quality, Harmonic of a voltage or current waveform is a sinusoidal wave  whose  frequency is an integer multiple of the fundamental frequency.

The use of non-linear loads and electronic switching, result in voltage and  current waveform distortion. The increase in electronic devices that are sensitive to waveform distortion caused many undesirable effect on power system.

Project Objectives

Our main objective is to optimal the harmonics and get sine wave at output for this purpose we put harmonic filter between input and output.

Project Implementation Method

We studied different research paper and analyze the different harmonic filter And analyze the different filter on MATLAB. We see that with different filter combination we can filter maximum harmonics from given system. By using MATLAB simulation, we use Band stop filter  to filter selective frequency which have  maximum percentage on fundamental frequency.
Passive Harmonic Filter.
High pass Filter.
Band pass Filter.
C-Type filter.
Series Filter.
Compared to the single-tuned version, the C-type, high-pass filter has lower losses at the fundamental frequency, because the capacitor and inductor are parallel with the resistor. To prevent fundamental currents from passing through the resistor, the resonance frequency of L2 and C2 is tuned to the fundamental frequency: f0=12?GL2C2. The quality factor is calculated using this equation: Q f=R2?f0nL2. The C-type filter works by providing low impedance path to the harmonic currents tuned at harmonic frequency.

  • Hybrid filters are less expensive as compared to active Filters. And it gives you a Combined benefit of active and passive filters.
  • The biggest benefit of these filters is that it reduces your power bill by controlling the harmonics in the power supply.
  • Using these filters can give you the best results and keep your system maintained.
  • Eliminates the need for using a separate APFC Panel, which caters to only power factor correction.
  • Hybrid Harmonic Filters provide the best PERFORMANCE UTILISATION INDEX as compared to both passive filters and active filters.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The technical details may innclude the hard form of the object which contains a ups converter with an arduino which takes the harmonics data from ups and saves it in the laptop then we use the Matlab Simulink to get the values and filter will reduce the values of harmonics to approximately very close to zero. From this we can save our important equipments. Harmonics are largely produced in power system due to the increased operation of non-linear loads. Out of many existing harmonic mitigation methods available. This project presented the application of passive harmonic filter as a solution to the harmonic problem.
