Project Summary

The photovoltaic (PV) industry has been enjoying great growth over the past
few years, mostly driven by high oil prices and environmental concerns.
However, PV cost remains to be the greatest barrier for further expansion, and it
needs to come down further to compete with traditional coal based grid
electricity. Besides solar panels, the electronic components, such as PV
inverters, are the major cost components. For safety and operational concerns,
grid-tied PV converters need to have harvested dc be isolated from the ac grid.
Isolation is usually required to satisfy safety regulation to prevent dc injection
into the ac grid that may impact distribution transformers and traditional watthour
meters. Traditional isolation solutions such as optocouplers can’t satisfy
the 25 year warranty typical for PV panels. In this case, the PV inverter is
installed at the back of the PV panel where the high temperature there can
accelerate the degradation of the optocouplers. This research discusses the
signal and power isolation needs in PV inverters and how integration of
isolation functions using a high frequency transformer can improve the system
performance and reliability and reduce the system size and cost.

Project Objectives

Our project focuses on doing isolation of an On Grid inverter. We use isolation to prevent the transfer of high or hazardous voltages between circuits. Type of isolation used: Electrical Isolation. Method of isolation: Isolation using (high frequency) Transformer.

Project Implementation Method

We done our work on software (Matlab).  This is the block digram of our project. We this on software as well ass on hardware. But on hardware we simply use H-Bridge inverter except of Unipolar SPWM inverter that wee implement on software.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits is to save the cost of coal, fule and other material that produce energy. Because of renewable energy Source. Among all the benefits of solar panels, the most important thing is that solar energy is a truly renewable energy source. It reduces electricity bills, low maintenance Costs, technology development, weather dependent but solar energy storage is expensive.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

High frequency transformer based isolation integration is the ideal solution for
the isolation needs for grid-tied (on-grid ) PV inverters, central inverters, or
many other types of inverters. Its integrated signal and power isolation
capability reduces component count dramatically and improves system
reliability and lifetime and its precise gate drive timing can lead to higher
inverter efficiency. An isolated ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) using
transformers enables more accurate grid current and voltage measurements that
would lead to high quality, unity power factor sinusoidal current into the grid.
