Noninvasive Hemoglobin meter
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryMonitoring of Hemoglobin levels daily is an essential part of your health management. Noninvasive Hemoglobin meter has the ability to constantly measure the change in hemoglobin level due changes in diet, weight loss, doing physical activity, and taking the proper nutrition. This ability to monitor continuously allows to prevent the complications of anemia caused by hemoglobin deficiency. Despite many efforts are made in the past two decades to design and develop such a device, the research is still in-progress due a number of reasons. The main reason is the cancellation of background noise due overlap of near-infrared signals due water, hemoglobin, and lipid. Physiochemical parameters such as body temperature and blood pressure are the major limitations for the actual monitoring of hemoglobin level so for this reason we are setting them as normal. Hemoglobin measurement is also affected by thickness and thermal properties of the skin and disease states. In order to minimize these limitations to monitor hemoglobin level, principle of pulse oximetry is used to find the concentration of hemoglobin in the blood.
Project Objectives- To develop a noninvasive hemoglobin meter
- To minimize the pain of the patient
- Measurement of Hb at frequent level
The Probe is to accurately detect hemoglobin level by using plethysmography technique. It comprises of red and infrared LEDs of 660 nm and 940 nm and a trans-impedance amplifier (OPT 101). The Band Pass Filter is such a design capable of passing specific band of frequencies, we designed band pass filter with cutoff frequencies of 0.8hz to 3hz by cascading a low pass filter of 3hz with a high pass filter of 0.8hz so that we get a very specific band pass filter. Amplifier, in order to get more proper response, we did a little addition of amplification to amplify our signal with 10db gain. For amplification we use an op amp lm358. Arduino has been used because of its simple clear programming environment and it is open source and extensible hardware and software. LCD is also used to get the real-time results by our made Project.
- Doctors can measure hemoglobin noninvasively
- Reduce pain of the patient
- Measurement of Hb at frequent level
Innovative non-Invasive Hemoglobin meter for testing Hemoglobin concentration in the blood without drawing any blood from the patient. Due to its non-invasive feature, this device can be safely used for regular monitoring and mass screening among young children, Women, and pregnant women without causing any discomfort. Regular screening and monitoring in these groups can prevent long-lasting health problems associated with severe anaemia. Since anaemia is highly prevalent in developing countries, this low-cost, easy-to-use, and accurate screening device will be highly useful. It is based on the principle that O2Hb and HHb differentially absorbed red and IR light. O2Hb absorbs greater amounts of IR light and HHb absorbs greater amounts of red light. The difference in light absorption between O2Hb and HHb two wavelength of lights are emitted at 660nm and IR at 940nm.
