Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryWe have designed a quadruped robotic dog having applications in many areas including healthcare, military, and personal use. My Companion, titled as MyCo, is designed with the incentive to introduce Artificial Intelligence to be a part of technological equipment in a cost-effective way. We aim to generate tactical solutions to situations where the functionalities of a real-life dog are helpful, and in this case, a robotic dog with integrated AI acts as a good replacement to a real-life dog in fields applicable. It will be based on fetching signals through Generic Converted Commands via a UDP port. With eight degrees of freedom in movement, it has a potential of exhibiting complex movements and is a prototype. MyCo is a prototype designed to honour its predecessor robotics with the objective to serve as a companion for those in need. We aspire to introduce this project for them to serve for a varied field-specific and generalized use where it can imitate a real-life dog in doing activities like walk and crotch. It will have 8 Degrees of freedom in movement through the servo motors. Myco will receive commands wirelessly and it has room for a lot of modifications depending on its architecture as well as the analogy of its built. It will be controlled by getting commands from a UDP based port socket through generic converted commands. The body will be designed to be cost-efficient.
Project ObjectivesThe project aims to address the needs as mentioned. Pakistan has a high prevalence rate for diseases that induce disabilities and ultimately make a person dependent for ADLs – Activities for Daily Life such as seeking directions and searching household items. Having MyCo can alleviate the dependency factor that comes from such debilitating conditions, therefore, increasing the quality of life. Its usage also extends to defensive purposes such as seen in Bomb Disposals like shattering glass windows, performing observational surveillance, retrieving small objects, and others. This will aim to accelerate the success rate of disposals and decrease the risk of human and real-dog fatalities in the process.
Project Implementation MethodIn today’s era, people are inclined towards getting user-friendly and cost-effective products to save time, effort, and money. With the development of a prototype of such need having the aim to fulfil these demands from the consumer end, MyCo can be a helpful addition to multiple facets of the society with its supplies and training. While a real-life dog would require time and effort to get fully trained, MyCo has the capacity to act according to the generated commands by the consumer through the Generic Converted Command system. The problems concerning time and effort are tactically resolved when it comes to needing an entity such as a robotic dog. Another factor of concern is the longevity that is hugely dependable on nature and one cannot predict sharply how long the dog is going to stay alive until the completion of a said mission. This uncertainty is duly resolved by MyCo.

Our product is the answer to all the problems discussed in the problem statement section. In the healthcare, for example, it can be helpful for people who ought to have support dogs depending on the severity of their medical condition such as epileptic patients and people with eye disorders like keratoconus, partial and full blindness. It can be a good companion for people with social anxiety as our product will be able to imitate basic dog actions and entertain the consumer, fulfilling the need for making bonds. What’s more, as it’s a prototype, it can be used in defence and military fields as well for possible application in Bomb Disposal Squads. It will also have the ability to cope up with multiple forms and figure of terrain. The ease of convenience that comes with MyCo exempts the user from time-taking and tiring courses of training, also, the care and maintenance of a dog at all levels including emotional is also not a part of the picture anymore, all thanks to AI integrated technology in MyCo.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe robot will follow the above-stated methodologies and models of convolutional networks in Artificial Intelligence to portray a general recognition of the owner through facial CNN models. Our robot will be activated either by voice command powered by google or python API or by toggle switch key. It will have the capacity to take vocal inputs from its user through the microphone. It will recognize its owner with MTCNN model using our camera. It will detect its objects through sharp eye sensor.
Face detection will be done python face detection library. It will respond through speakers and gestures.
