Mood Detection Based Music Player

Emotion Detection Application will detect the human facial expression and emotions, that whether the person is sad, happy, angry, or afraid. Then the system will automatically play the song according to their facial expressions and emotions. We will categorize the music playlist into five categories

Project Summary

Emotion Detection Application will detect the human facial expression and emotions, that whether the person is sad, happy, angry, or afraid. Then the system will automatically play the song according to their facial expressions and emotions. We will categorize the music playlist into five categories these are sadness, happiness, anger, neutral, and fear. Face recognition will first recognize the face and detects human emotions. It is a common practice that we usually detect human emotions with some specific parts of the face, like the mouth, cheeks, eyes, and nose. Likewise, the application will also extract these specific face parts, and analyze their behavior, and detects human emotions. For example, if the human eyes are wide open, cheeks have no wrinkles, and lips are in circle shape, then the system can say that the person is sad, after detecting the system will plays that category song. 
The project will cover multiple models of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, which will help us in detecting a human face in real-time. People love to listen to songs with their daily life routines according to their mood and emotions. But the problem is that they can’t concentrate on their tasks because they need to select the appropriate songs for their mood and emotions. To automate this process, we are going to design an application that will detect your facial emotions and automatically plays the songs that sync your mood and emotions. Now you don’t need to divert your attention towards a mobile phone while driving, just shows the application on your face, and let the system handle it. The application will come with its playlist where the user can add their favorite songs in their respective emotion categories. For example, if the user wants to add the song ‘Liar’ then the user can add it into the ‘Angry’ category. And in the end, the system will categorize the specific song on its own.

Project Objectives

We have planned to facilitate music lovers. They can listen to their favorite songs without interacting or finding the songs from the apps. Listening to music is a daily activity for music lovers, and in old apps, they have to search the songs from the entire playlists, which is time takings. Mood Detection-based music player will find the user’s favorite songs automatically. The system will just detect the human mind and plays the songs according to their mood. The project objective is to save the user’s time and make their life easy. The application should meet the following objectives after the completion of the project:
•    The system will ask the user the username, email, password, gender details on the signup form.

•    Users can access the system by providing the username and password. Also, they can checks the Remember Me option, to stay logged in to the system.

•    The user will find the five music categories in the system, Happy, Sad, Neutral, Anger, & Fear. User can add their favorite music into each category. For example, a slow and sad song could be added to the Sad music category.

•    After adding all the songs into each category, now the system will be ready to play the music automatically.

•    The user can provide the picture to the system, either from the gallery or camera. The system is capable tod detects the face & mood from the provided gallery picture or live camera picture. 

•    The system will analyze the user’s face, extract the features/gestures from the face, and detects the human mood.
 
•    As the system detects the user’s mood, it will confirm the detected mood from the user.

•    The user can now accept the confirmation or can tell the system his/her mood manually.

•    After the mood detection step, the system will play that detected mood playlist category song. Let’s suppose, the user is in fear, the system would play the songs lies in the fear category.

•    Now the songs are playing, the user will get full access to control the music. Shuffle, repeat, pause/stop, play/start, next previous, are the controls for the user. Users can use these functions to control the playlist as they want. Users can log out to the system if they want, by the Log Out option.

Project Implementation Method

  • The application would have an integrated camera feature that will get open as the user starts the application.
  • The camera then starts detecting the human face with the help of face recognition.
  • After the face recognition, feature extraction and feature classification would take place, it means the system will detect the human face parts and analyze the behavior of mouth, cheeks, eyes, and nose, to detect the human emotions.
  • After successfully detecting the human emotions, the system will start finding the music from the integrated build-in app playlist.
  • The system is bounded to search the music in only that specific emotion category, which matches human emotions.
  • After finding the music, the system will play the music for the user with the help of mobile speakers. 
  • The system would be capable to detect the human face in-between the music playing. Users have to press the camera icon to change the music according to their emotion detection results.
  • Users would also search the music if they want, except for the emotion detection feature.
  • Use can download their favorite music collection. The system will give the user access to add those songs in their respective emotion categories. Emotion categories would be sadness, happiness, anger, neutral, fear.
  • After selecting the songs to their respective emotion categories, then the system will be able to play those songs only.

Benefits of the Project

Emotion Detection Application, a unique and creative idea. It is our common practice that in free time we usually listen to songs & music depending on our mood and emotions. We human needs to select the appropriate song according to our mood. For example, if we are smiling and feeling happy then we would love to listen to casual & happy songs, but if we are having a bad day and we are sad then we will probably listen to sad songs, likewise, we usually listen to songs in this way. But what if now we don’t have to select the songs on our mood, instead the application will detect our emotions with face recognition and it will automatically play the songs according to our mood and emotions. It means that the system will detect your emotions on your face, if you are smiling then it would play the happy songs, or you are sad or crying then the system will detect your sad face and it will play the sad songs.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The emotion detection application is a technically complex project. As we are bounded to make the application more effective and efficient. The system should be smart enough to detect the correct human detection. For this, we are going to apply different Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Models to make the system smart. Like Image Processing, which processes and loads the human face into the system. Feature Extraction will reduce the face image to the main face parts which will help to detect the emotions. Feature Classification, it will detect and categorize the emotions of a human face.
The system should be deployed on the platform of Codename Version API level 16 release.  
The application can only run with an active mobile phone camera, and the also user has to accept the SLA to connect the application with the phone gallery. Also, it has a playlist that will play the songs according to the user’s mood. The mobile phone should also have active phone speakers, a headphone rack, or running Bluetooth to connect external speakers/headphones.
Some technical details are:
