Modernization of Internal Combustion Engine Test Bench.
Project Area of Specialization Mechatronics EngineeringProject Summary{Summarize main reasons of doing this project, theme of project, need of your design and what ideas you have to achieve the proposed design.}
Project Objectives{Specify the tasks/objectives which you are planning to achieve through this project, work which is required to be completed for achieving them and deliverables which you will be giving in the end e.g. a prototype, simulation, an algorithm or a design. Relevant to Final Scoring}
Project Implementation MethodThe objective of this project was to design a Test Bench and a Working Dynamometer with an Arduino Micro controller The bench was design in such that it was easy, can bear the load of the engine and was inexpensive to fabricate. Various types of engine can be fixed on the test bench ranging up to 10.0 HP. The design is unique in such that it is portable and can be moved from one place to another. Dynamometer is an electrical device which is used to calculate the Torque developed by the engine. Sensors are used to calculate the RPM (Revolution per Minute) of the engine both of these reading of Torque and RPM are calculated from Arduino System.
Benefits of the Project{Specify communities directly and indirectly benefiting from this project. State; who and how (use bullets)}
Technical Details of Final Deliverable- The engine test benches for internal combustion engines are used for many purposes in the automotive industry with strong advantages in terms of reproducibility and costs.
- The torque and the speed at the crankshaft of the engine must be tracked simultaneously to simulate the operation of an internal combustion engine in a vehicle. Single-input single-output proportional-integral-controllers are usually used to this end.
- Additional limitations have been introduced in the Engine Control Unit to meet the continuously strengthened emission levels.
- The limitations are studied and the impacts to the tracking are analyzed in this paper.
- The existing proportional-integral-controller is extended based on this analysis
- . In particular, the controller parameters are scheduled with respect to the change of the torque reference and the tracking error. No model of the plant is required for controller design, the controller parameters can be tuned quickly and easily during the set-up of a test bench.
