The use of electric bike is increasing day by day in all over the world as it offers wide range of 
advantages in which some are zero emissions, no fuel requirement, economical than any gasoline bike 
produces low noise and require low maintenance cost. The weight of electric bike is major problem as 
heavy weight Electric Bikes consumes more power, that’s why it covers short distance. The aim of 
this study to design and fabricate the energy efficient light weight electric bike and compared with the 
published bike and conventional bike, and tests proposed electric bike on the local Pakistan road. The 
proposed electric bike was modeled by using AutoCAD software and fabricated the designed model 
by iron ferrous material. The results achieved after modeling and fabrication the in which the total 
weight of vehicle is 40 kg, distance is 40km with average speed of 35 km/hr and 3 hours charging 
time. Moreover, the model is validated with existing electric bike having total wight of 75 kg and 
distance covered 40 and 48 km per charge of battery. The weight of proposed bike is comparatively 
light weight with improved weight around 44% as compared to existing model of electric bike. This 
project is feasible for the local use within the city for people. The Demand of electric motorbikes in market is increasing at a fast rate due to advancement in electric 
propulsion systems, storage cells and as prices of fuel, pollution content in environment are increasing 
rapidly and because of gradual depletion of the non-renewable energy sources, it has become an 
important aspect to alter the source of our energy in our vehicles. Bearing all these reasons in mind 
we have to switch over to other sources of energy as an alternative of using conventional sources for 
instance diesel which is going to be extinct in near future. One of the ways for altering the energy 
source is to go for electric vehicles or e- bikes. Vehicles driven electrically use a battery as an energy 
source that provides power to the motor which in turn provides torque to the wheels of vehicle. E-
bikes are not an alternate for conventional motorcycles. However, a greater number of people can 
travel on these vehicles. they could even become a means of locomotion that could replace the 
automobile in future. It is easily useable by everyone, especially for those who are physically disable 
and seniors. An Electric motorbike is a testing ground for the engineers. The main idea of the project for an 
engineering team is to construct an electric motorbike with improved performance. The motorbike 
fabrication must be low in cost, easy to maintain, and reliable, with high performance in terms of its 
acceleration, braking, and handling qualities. In order to achieve improved performance of electric One of the important factors which affect the 
performance of the electric motorbike is its weight which cannot be removed but is controllable, in order too improved.

Project Objectives

1) To model and fabricate light weight and efficient electric bike with practical analyzes.
2) To develop the model using AutoCAD software tool.
3) To analyze and validate the experimental results with existing model.

Project Implementation Method

An electric motorcycle works essentially the same way a gas-powered motorcycle works it is propelled 
by an engine, and that engine requires fuel. The main difference is that the gas fuel in a conventional 
motorcycle is replaced by either batteries or fuel cells in an electric version. The operating principle 
of an electric motor is quite similar to that of a gas engine. In both cases motorcycles are powered by 
mechanical energy, but only in one case are they powered by rechargeable batteries. Electric vehicles 
run on electricity, that causes a pole into the motor to spin it. It isn’t so much a fuel-powered motor 
but rather a battery that can travel a range of 40 to 70 miles between charges. When the battery is ON 
the current flows to the motor and the power is transmitted to the rear wheels with the help of Hub 
Drive motor. The diagram shows the parts and the connection between them so it can be easily identified. The parts 
are as follows:
1) Battery

3) Controller 
4) Throttle 
5) Charger

Benefits of the Project

Since natural resources of energy are depleting and rate of pollution is increasing due to the emission 
of toxic gases, combustion of fuels causing depletion of ozone layer and global warming. In order to 
save the fossil fuels such as petrol, from being extinct and to control the pollution in atmosphere it is 
necessary to switch over to other modes of power resources as electricity.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Although, electric motorbike is a very old way of conveyance and transportation, which now a days 
is not in use but we cannot deny the significance it holds. Fuel is the basic requirement for most types 
of transportation vehicles, major significance of e-bikes is that it does not require any fuel, which 
allows us to save a major portion of transportation cost. As we know that the energy required to drive 
the vehicle from the fuel is extracted by combustion of fuel which in turn releases harmful gases, since
electric vehicle does not require any fuel for drive so there is no emission of harmful gases. These 
electrically driven vehicles don’t require very high maintenance due to the fact that there are no 
moving parts (no machine-to-machine contact). These vehicles work on simple phenomena of directly 
converting electrical energy into mechanical energy and do not require various processes for 
conversion of energy which yields in very less noise being produced during operation. From test 
conducted by motorcycle manufacturers in comparison of electric and gasoline bikes it was proven 
that the electric vehicle will perform better if power, weight and size are same.
