Project Summary

we know that 70% of the earth is covered with water and it is enough to satisfy much, or even most of humanity's energy requirements. if it could be harvested effectively and on a large scale. Mini hydro-electric generator (MHEG)  which is quite efficient as large scale hydro-turbine but the difference is only of the size. Large scale hydro turbines are implemented on large areas like dams, the mini hydro-electric generator will be implemented on small areas like villages and the canals used to supply water to agriculture lands.  MHEG will be implemented on the canals that are used to flow water to the lands, as the water flows through canals it will be hit the hydro turbine and the electrical power will be harvested in a clean and sustainable manner.

Project Objectives

  • The objective of this project is to design and build a mini hydro turbine to generate electrical power
  • It does not need full-time monitoring or security, once it starts working it will continue its production until water flow stops or it is stopped manually

Project Implementation Method

 The main blocks of this project are

  1. Hydro turbine
  2. Dc generator
  3.  Battery
  4. Inverter
  5. Load
  • Design of the project is set to work on the agriculture areas
  • Crossflow water turbine is used which is best suited and will be most-efficient according to the environment
  • The frame is designed in such a way that is could be stable when water flows through it.
  • A strong base is employed to hold the weight of the structure.

  • The main component is the Turbine. Cross-flow turbine is used which is well known for low head/pressure water.


when water flows through, the project will be placed on the canal and as the water hits the turbine it will start to revolve. The generator will be coupled with the turbine so as the turbine rotates generator rotates and mechanical energy of the turbine is converted into electrical power.

Crossflow turbine used because of its construction of blades it is quite efficient for low-head as compared to other hydro turbines

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

the project will be submitted in working conditions. the frame will be made of iron to reduce the weight. the turbine will be connected .at the bottom of the frame according to the height of the water. as the power is produced it will be consumed live and also be stored in batteries for after use or as backup power using inverter.
