Micro Grid enhancement via the Grid tie Pv-inverters in active distribution Networks
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThis project provides the detailed overview of grid connected photovoltaic (PV) inverter in active distribution networks. In order to extract the maximum power from the PV system maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique has been used. A Buck-Boost converter (DC to DC converter) is controlled via the Perturb and Observe method to achieve the MPPT. A single phase H-bridge inverter is used for the conversion of DC power of buck-boost converter into AC power. Buck-Boost of the system is connected to the battery bank which stores the energy that is used in case of power failure. The performance of the grid-tied inverter depends to a great extent on the control technique in which the synchronization of the grid voltages, phase angle and frequency, with the output voltages, phase angle and frequency of the PV system is applied. This system is simulated in the MATLAB/SIMULINK. For the practical part, a single phase H-bridge inverter is planned and built. The controlled switching of inverter is completed digitally using PIC18f452 microcontroller. For a close loop control some extra filtering and protection circuitry is further implemented. The system is also practically tested and verified by changing the solar irradiance and grid voltages.
Project ObjectivesThe main objectives of this project are:
? To build a grid tied photovoltaic system for domestic purpose.
? To synchronize the PV system with grid
? To achieve MPPT (without tracking the sun light) in dynamic condition
Project Implementation MethodIn order to extract the maximum power from the PV system maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique has been used. A Buck-Boost converter (DC to DC converter) is controlled via the Perturb and Observe method to achieve the MPPT.
