Project Summary

Metros had been designed to divert some traffic of big cities from roads to the railway tracks.They have their own frequency they do not share their tracks to any of the trains. It is considered to be the backbone of the big cities of the world.
The track circuits can be controlled by a Programme Logic Controller (PLC) and the design with monitoring can be done in Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software.Usage of Ladder logic programming for the development of the system .Wireless communication system for the railway signal automation . The SCADA can be multi-tasking and are based upon a real-time database (RTDB).
 

Project Objectives

we are going to replace the manual working of metro train system by automatically controlling and monitoring the train movements using PLC & SCADA controlling operation of metro train by avoiding train accidents. It is not just about controlling the multiple operations of trains but also made the track change over with wireless communication. Accidents are avoided by when a train meets an obstacle, the sensor installed in the Metro train system will sense the object. Collision of train will be overcome by reducing the speed of a train when an obstacle is detected.
 

Project Implementation Method

The main tool for controlling the signals of the train is PLC for taking appropriate actions. The data of PLC gets collected by SCADA which is used for monitoring the signals.  Programmable Logic Controller is used for also for track changing.Train movement is sensed by different Sensors which are placed at regular intervals in the track and gives an input signal to the PLC. The reliability and maintenance of PLC is easy. An electromechanical relay has many hardware failures PLC has many few of hardware failures. SCADA is used for monitoring the metro system and shows the graphical representation of our project.By using the wireless communication train made easy communication with each other. These types of digital waves carry the information about track details, train details, segments, destination etc.The PLC will communicate with the trains by using wireless communication. The sensory signal will also be sending directly to the PLC to monitor the present condition. If the controller finds any errors or changes, suddenly it updates the information so by using a controller train operators need not to communicate with other operator the PLC will guide the train till its destination. The station master can update the PLC according to the requirement.The overall functioning of the proposed automated railway protection system using PLC/SCADA. It comprises of various sensors like Proximity sensors , IR sensor and ultrasonic sensor for sensing the parameters to be controlled and monitored like avoiding the collision, Track cracking ,Gate control and traffic light controlling.

6) Railway gates for the passenger before the train arrive.

The proposed system will reduce the amount of accidents happening on the daily basis. Signals can be controlled automatically by determining the train movement and which will avoid train accidents. Safety of passengers increases and this arrangement strengthens the communication of the train. The main intention of this project is to avoid train collisions and by using this project many human lives can be protected.  Instead of manually operate this or any human involvement the trains will automatically stop.
