LPG AND NATURAL GAS DETECTION AND CONTROL
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryLPG and Natural Gas Detection and Control:
LPG and Natural Gas have become an indispensable part of our life as it is an important source of fuel for cooking and also used in automobiles as an alternative to petrol and diesel. Although it is a clean fuel it poses a threat as it is highly combustible. The LPG’s are available either in pressurized cylinders or as in pipeline supply in both cases there is high chance of leakage. Gas leakage leads to various accidents resulting into both financial loss as well as human injuries . The risk of firing, explosion , suffocation all are based on their physical properties such as flammability , toxicity etc . The number of deaths due to explosion of gas cylinders has been increasing in recent years . The reason for such explosion is due to sub-standard cylinders , old valves , worn out regulators and lack of awareness using gas cylinders add to the risks.
Currently available Gas leakage detector systems only detect the leakage and alert the user through buzzer and visual display. Which is not enough to avoid gas leakage accidents.
Our project is geared towards the implementation of security system that monitors the leakage on regular basis using sensors. The proposed system has two main parts, a master
unit and remote units. Remote unit is used to detect the leakage and turn off the gas valve. If the gas leakage further increases, remote unit will turn off the electric supply locally to avoid accident due to spark and alert the master unit wirelessly. Master unit will turn of the main supply valve to avoid further leakage, the alarm system is activated through buzzer and will alert the user about the gas leakage through SMS. If the consumer is not available and the master unit doesn’t receive acknowledgement, then the system will alert the emergency system through Web. There will be a dedicated web page for emergency center and in case any emergency occur it will provide complete address and coordinates of spot so that rescue team may arrive on time at the scene of the rescue.
Project Objectives:
- To design a system that detects the leakage of both LPG and Natural gas.
- To make a system that has capability to provide control by tripping-off gas supply automatically to avoid further leakage.
- To install multiple units to secure the whole building through a centralized controller.
- To inform the user through mobile
- On unavailability of user at the place of accident, inform the rescue center in case of emergency.
Project Implementation Method:
- Collection of literature.
- Installation of simulation software
- Simulations.
- Comparing results of simulations
- Merging different units
- Hardware implementation
- Checking performance of developed prototype.
- Bringing project to final shape
Benefits of the project:
LPG and Natural Gas Detection and Control project is beneficial for mankind on domestic as well as on industrial level. It can easily be implemented in our homes, offices, shops, in short all residential areas. It is capable enough to handle any feature and advancements as per requirement.
The implemented LPG and Natural gas Detection and Control offers a number of advantages over dependence on unreliable detection by human sense of smell. The automated gas detection and evacuation process ensures safety by preventing gas induced house fires. The device performs the following:
- It detects LPG leakage using MQ-6 sensor
- Activates an alarm upon gas leakage detection, and it stops the alarm once the leakage is under control (gas concentration in the atmosphere is within normal range)
- Shows ‘LPG Leakage Alert’ on LCD
- It incorporates an SMS based alert mechanism, and it sends SMS text (alert message) to mobile number/s
- Shuts off gas supply using a solenoid valve when gas leakage is detected
- It evacuates the leaked gas from the leakage area using an exhaust fan
- If the consumer is not available and the master unit doesn’t receive acknowledgement, then the system will alert the emergency system through Web.
Our main idea is to implement wireless security system for detecting leakage of gas in closed environment using sensors. The proposed system has two main parts, a master unit and remote units.
