The main factor behind the power loss is increase of Inductive Load day by day in Industries as well as in Domestic level, due to which our power system is losing its efficiency. To meet this problem, so we need to improve our power factor by a suitable way automatic Power Factor Controlling device.

Project Objectives

Our project work is concerned with making Power Factor correction device based on an embedded system that will monitor the Power Factor and will take care of switching to maintain the level of our desired power factor to fulfill the standard norms. Our work is an embedded system with a microcontroller. Signals of voltage and current from our system will be sampled and taken to measure the Power Factor and will display if it less than our specified value by the utility, then our device will automatically switch on capacitors to remunerate the reactive power. The quantity of capacitors turned on or off will be decided by the microcontroller according to the reactive power required to improve the Power Factor. This device has low cost, long life, No motor, and No moving Part. That’s why in the future, it can be used at the domestic and industrial levels.
 

Project Implementation Method

We will use Zero Crossing Detector of C.T and P.T to give us pulses and then gives its outcomes to Microcontroller which will be displayed on the LCD Screen. If the P.F needs to be improved then Microntroller will commands to activate relays connected to the capacitor bank to Improve the Power Factor in this way.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Through our desired project, we will be able to improve the Power Factor quickly and automatically instead of manually, without any delay and chance of human error. That will result to reduce demand charges, increase load-carrying capacity in our existing system and make our system more efficient by saving power.
