Every year there are so many cases of children and people getting lost or vehicles and other valuables getting lost. And this is a serious issue of our society that needs to be dealt with. Normally, whenever someone finds a lost person like a kid or someone else, people mostly take the person to a nearby Mosque where they make an announcement of finding a lost person so that someone who might know the person can come and take him. But if the person does not belong to the same area then this method is not very efficient. Therefore, we are making a website and android application to resolve this situation and to make the process of finding missing people a little more efficient.
This website and the android app will have the same functionalities. In the lost section, a form will appear on your screen. To post an ad, the user has to fill in all of the credentials, for example, when and where it was lost, if it is a person who got lost then enter the name of that lost person, name of the user posting the ad and the location where to return the person if he is found. Just like Lost, the same categories are for Found that the user will add while posting the ad.
The user’s profile page will be maintained accordingly in which he will be able to filter the ads on the basis of its name and the gender of the person. The person who finds the missing person will fill the form and most of its credentials like his name, location where he found it and the description of the person then he has to enter the name of the lost person, his age, his gender, and the location from where the person can retrieve him. Thus, the basic reason for this application is to make things easy for the people and to make something valuable for society.
The main objectives of this Lost and Found portal are to:
- Provide a platform to find the missing people or things.
- Make it easy to find someone who is lost or something (vehicle etc.) that got lost.
- Give a platform to the people so that they can post ads of missing people.
- Help the police department and other agencies in finding the missing people
Iterative development life cycle:
In this process of making small and basic modules of a system and then advancing on to bigger and more complex modules after going through various testing phases. New modules are added to the basic structure after each cycle of development hence called as an iterative development life cycle.
This life cycle model helps in making a basic structure or model of the system and helps in setting a path for the future. Because with the base made, it makes it easy to plan what needs to be done next. Hence by moving at this pace, more and more modules are put together and the complete system is made. Each iteration has a testing and debugging phase after which the module is ready to enter the next phase. This phase becomes more difficult and lengthier as we proceed with the number of iterations. Once each module is made, they are put together and are then tested.
As we know, in Pakistan there is no such application that focus on missing people and few websites that are available are not commonly used. We often see on social media that people add a post and then share that post to other apps and the chain goes on. A proper platform is not available. Through these posts, we cannot assure that whether this person is still missing or not because no one feels like contacting to confirm it. People share it blindly just to do something good. Even when the person is already found, the post still continues to get shared.
So, we are introducing this portal that can solve this issue, here people can post about missing people or stuff and when the respective person is found they will also have an option to confirm retrieval of that person or stuff and remove that post.
Through this application not only common man but also the police department can get benefits like if they get a missing case, they can upload the credentials on this portal, or if they found someone, they can just go through the portal that if anyone has posted there for that missing person.
The main scope of this project is to provide a platform to the people where they can find a missing person or thing or provide information of any found person or thing. The target is to reduce man effort and overall process time. By posting it here on this source, the ad will be shared and spread easily and chances of finding it will also be high. Missing cases are also reported in the police. This will help the police department as well.
