Project Summary

The proposed Library Mobile Application will allow users to access their library related necessary information and requests using their Android devices. It will keep track of which students are utilising which books in the library and provide a complete description of the items available in the library under respective categories. A “Notification” feature notifying users about deadlines of book return, important library announcements, news, events or new journals/books arrivals. Through our app, users can easily access and download the free e-journals and e-books available. In addition, our application also includes a virtual tour of ground floor of the library which will be especially useful for the newbies. 
 

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of our project are: 

• To save students time by checking the availability of a book before going to the library, so that he doesn't waste his time coming to the library to look for it. 
• To provide free online access for digital resources (e-journals/e-books). 
•  To save the students from paying the fine in case they forget the due-date, by reminding them before the deadline for returning the books. 
• To allow users to send the renewal request to the library or to book those books in advance which will be available soon via app, instead of visiting the library. 
•  To guide the students through a virtual tour of the library. 
• To keep the users (students/faculty) updated about important library announcements, news, events or new journals/books arrival.

Project Implementation Method

The implementation method is as follows:

• First the design for our application and SMTP server will be made.
•  Next, we will implement  the UI for our application and SMTP server after the stakeholder's approval.
•  Next, we will implement all the basic features of a Library Application, starting from the core features as per user/stakeholder's requirements.
• The SMTP server for scheduled emails and non-scheduled emails will be developed.
•  The virtual tour for the ground floor of Main Campus library of NED willbe made.
• Then the tour will be optimized according to the mobile application. 
• Then it will be integrated with the mobile application using different libraries
• For first person view and 360 degree moving and user control the system will be made dynamic in nature. 

This project is following agile methodology. The design of the mobile application is ready and it is in its initial phase of development.

The development of virtual tour (which requires this funding) will be started in the last semester i.e. spring semester 2022.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of this project are:

• A full-fledged mobile application where students will be able to avail all the library facilities and will provide great ease to the students and especially the newbies through "Virtual tour" of different sections of library.
• An SMTP server allowing faculty to send scheduled/unscheduled emails (currently manually sent).

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

•  The mobile application will be built using react-native with oracle as database.
•  The APIs will be bulit using Node.js which will fetch the data from Oracle database.
• The SMTP server development will be on TOMCAT.
• The virtual tour of the library (only ground floor) will be based on its 3D model made using Blender.
