Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryRF spectrum scarcity is assumed to be one of the major obstacle for implementation of ubiquitous connectivity under the umbrella of 5G communications. To overcome this issue, many evolutionary technologies are suggested into the literature that would play the major role in making the 5G and 5G+ communications a reality. These technologies include intelligent cognitive radio technology, VLC communications, millimeter wave communications, self organized networks, Massive MIMO, Non Orthogonal Multiple Access, Small Cell and Beamforming technologies. In this exhaustive list of technologies, intelligent Cognitive radio is assumed to play a major role in providing better usage of RF spectrum. This will be achieved through gathering RF spectrum data from environment and using the spectrum in secondary fashion. Artificial Intelligence is also known as the 4th Industrial Revolution. The proposed radio will incorporate the real time gathered data into the algorithms to provide improved suggestions regarding the use of RF spectrum in peak hours for Karachi city.
Project ObjectivesThis project addresses the spectrum scarcity issue in Karachi by proposing learning enabled algorithms for Cognitive Radio applications. The project will collect RF spectrum usage data in real-time through USRP devices and incorporate the data in the proposed algorithms.
Project Implementation MethodFollowing work flow will be adoptted:
•Spectrum sensing via USRP
•Developing data set of GSM Band
•Training data set using Machine Learning algorithms
Benefits of the ProjectThe information and communication technology industry is nowadays faced with world challenge: develop new services with improved quality of service and at the same time reduce its environmental impact. Clearly, there is a deep want of world’s potency not only in energy domain as well as in spectral domain. Indeed the gap between wireless provide and demand widens. It is fear that there will be spectrum crisis, within which exploding demands from Smartphone can presently overwhelm the wireless capability, will occur. The problem is that there is lack of new spectrum available to wireless data carrier. In order to handle the matter of spectrum usage potency cognitive radio technology has the potential of being a troubled force at intervals spectrum management

- To simulate cognitive radio system by using MATLAB.
- To implement spectrum sensing algorithms for cognitive radio networks based on machine learning techniques.
- To ensure most utilization of frequency spectrum.
- To extend the potency of a frequency spectrum by decreasing spectrum holes.
