Project Title

Klann Mechanism Walking Robot For Surveillance and Spying

Project Area of Specialization Mechatronics EngineeringProject Summary

Rapid technological advancements have given humans an edge over multiple obstacle, with new technologies new problems arise and modern warfare is a perfect example. There are boundaries in field that are dangerous to human life and to cross those boundaries robots are used. Such as a mine field which is fatal area for a human life, a robot could be sent for crossing that field or even detect the threat underneath the field.

Project Objectives

With rapid research and development projects manufacturing we are moving towards advanced warfare. Defence forces of every country wants to gain an upper hand in any combat against terrorism. To gain intel and spy on terrorist force drones are used. And for that purpose will make land based Klann mechanism robot which can cross rough terrains which are very hard to cross on small wheels. Our robot with klann mechanism will have advantage of its spider like leg movement which will enable it to move around rock and obstacle with ease. Moreover its legs will give the robot sufficient height which enables the robot to cross swamp or area with less depth of water, protecting the robot from environmental damages.

Project Implementation Method

Klann Mechanisms have improved greatly in recent times. It is the same mechanism that people are using to replicate movements of different animals. Since we are using it for spying and surveillance we will attach a camera on the robot for live feed through robot. The camera will be a night vision camera for better video feed at night. For deployment in mine fields the robot will be equipped with metal detector, which will help detect any metal object underground to sufficient depth. In addition to this we can try to add a rotatable gun holder to which a small handgun or a tranquilizer gun can be attached for protecting the robot if spotted in restricted areas by terrorist personnel. The rotation of gun holder will be controlled via Bluetooth through mobile and movement of robot will also be controlled through mobile via Bluetooth

Benefits of the Project

Our robot with klann mechanism will have advantage of its spider like leg movement which will enable it to move around rock and obstacle with ease. Moreover its legs will give the robot sufficient height which enables the robot to cross swamp or area with less depth of water, protecting the robot from environmental damages.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Klann Mechanism is a complex mechanism that totally depends on gears for power transmission. Any changes in weight distribution could change the movement of robot due to excess load on gears such as the gun holder we will attach. Rotation of gun could cause the robot to tilt, to avoid such failure firstly we will try to make gun holder as low in height as possible, secondly we will attach a dummy gun since we are making a prototype. Although we are making a prototype but still it is not guaranteed that the robot will bear weight of an actual gun. If we have enough resources we can manufacture it on industrial scale with much tougher parts that will surely allow robot to hold a gun or tranquilizer. Since we have lack of resources such as funds we will opt to make our robot as working prototype which will be a scaled down version in terms of functionality but it will surely demonstrate its purpose on field efficiently
